lionfish...every where...on the wrecks...

No natural predators in the Atlantic ocean
They ain't met up with "THE CAT", yet! :laughing7:

Well, 'cept them few when I was lobstering......... they just got lucky!

*note to self: get smaller nets

You don't have to....if you put them in a cooler of ice water for 20 minuets it neutralizes the toxin in the spines..... then you can safety filet, and if you get poked...will be no effect!

Forget the cooler, grab a beer and a couple shots of tequila because the next 45 minutes are going to suck! Then it's all good once again...it's the same as getting poked by a fire hand or leather jacket.

I noticed that same headline today.

hm they might be good for eating, but they also look nice alive I think :angel3:

They are very pretty but sadly, they're a nasty, nasty invasive species in our waters that does immense harm to our local ecosystem.

I sometimes dive to 200 to 300 ft to keep current and maintain my ability to do so. i see them all the way back up, they appear to feel safer at depth as there are no people disturbing them there. There are certainly more the deeper you go over the wall.

thank you for your services SADS were you part of a scuba team there too

I was never a working diver in military terms, I used to teach Soldiers to dive in the BSAC/PADI styles to improve their quality of service life. Much more fun than spending hours hacksawing through a bolt or looking for things in nil viz that might explode if touched. Military diving is like Scuba on steroids.....

if anyone is going to participate in this safari I would love to come along! please pm me!!
chuck.

I sure wish I had heard about it more than 5 days in advance.
It's only $80 to enter up to a 4 man team. Talk about a fun way to do a little competitive diving and get rid of some damn lionfish in the process.

Sorry about the short notice. A friend of mine that makes Foldspears (Foldspear -The only Holstered Polespear) asked me this morning if he and a couple of guys could catch a ride with me. Since I am still a member of the broken boat club, they're looking for a 4th member with a boat. Odd how many more people remember your phone number after you buy a boat... Andy is a good guy if you want to go...
