Lily Pad Roots

By the shore of a lake came across these (space looking things) that I have never seen before. After walking several more yards
a Lily pad was washed on the shore line and had the root system attached, turns out to be roots for Lily pads.

Big suckers. I do believe lilly pad tubers are edible. At least the white ones. Google it. I AM NOT saying eat those, just relaying information on that plant.

You are right as lily pad tubers are edible, however these strange looking roots are exactly where we found them.
What we did find to eat was some wild onions just before they flower, added a nice flavor to our meal..

If you plant them in dirt in a plastic pot, cover the last 1/2" with pea gravel or such, and submerge in a tub of water in a few weeks you will have your very own water lily.

Excellent idea, on our next trip out to the claims will stop by the lake and pick some up to plant...

Rhizomes, my pond has them float up sometimes. They'll sprout pads quick.
