This was dug about 3 ft from an 1876 coin my buddy found and about 10 ft from an old well. It looks to me to be too small to be a horse shoe and it has a bar in the middle. Its the perfect size to be a heel plate but it seems too thick. Its about as thick as a stack of about 4 quarters and the ends are a lil thicker than that. Both sides of it look the same. I tried electrolosis for the very first time on this item. It looks alot better than when I started but its still kinda rough. What do yall think??

Sorry, but I can't help you with your unknown item. It sorta looks like there is a section missing on it. It looks like both ends have been broken off, as the ends are not in a straight line. Could have been an old belt buckel or something along those lines. Hope you are able to find out.

The ends are in a straight line. One side just had a little more hard mud on it than the other. The mud on it was rock hard and hard to get off. I got all of it off that I could.

Not an oxen shoe.

We had one of these here before, a while ago, I'm not sure it was ever ID'd.

I hope someone who remembers it can help me find the post.

I don't see any nail holes in it, maybe it's part of a buckle from some kind of horse gear?
I believe Ken got it. It's an eyelet for a rope or strap. Works like a saddle cinch. Tony

I've looked at it close again and the best i can tell there are no holes in it for nails. I dont know if you can tell in the picture or not but all the way around the center of the U it is indented. Its like that on both sides then it has the larger part on each end. I hope I'm making sense. Thanks for the help so far!!

I recant and repent. I agree heel plate, and I think I am seeing holes rusted over all around the inside edge at equal intervals. Dang, I'm back to .005 of 1 percent correct! M ;) nty
