Lil' cove - Day 3 - Old Copper

Back to the cove I went today after a quick morning prospecting hunt.

I got there, nice coffee in hand, shining sun... but a few more mosquitoes than I was hoping for.

The first good signal I hit was an old copper.

Is it a coin? Is it a token? I don't know... yet. It's in rough shape and soaking in peroxide right now. Hopefully it works.

After that, I found another musketball.... and what looks like a mini-musketball. lol

A few more pennies and a 70's quarter.

I also found 51 wheatie in good shape at the top of the beach, just one lil green spot on the back.

*I'll post a pic of the old copper shortly after the soak is done.

Good to see you're still getting out! Peroxide doesn't to do much for coins out of salt water.

I meant to write you a note back quite a while ago to see if it was going ok. But it sounds like it, and you just need to walk over the right spot.

I just took it out after 7 hours of soaking. It is absolutely toast. lol

That's salt for you! The peroxide is usually only good for coins that have green corrosion, and ones that you can still see detail through the green. When it looks like it did in the first pic, the chances are very low you'll get much out of it. I think you need a good old land site.

Yeah IP, it's a goner. lol

I appreciate the musketball finds, but I havent had much other luck.

I know that indians and early settlers used to portage? from this cove over the big hill behind it to get to another body of water on the other side.

It's quite a steep area... and full of trees and growth, but it's worth a shot.
