Detector(s) used
Minelab 1000, A Motorized Power Glider Trike, 17 foot travel trailer behind my Jeep. 4" suction dredge/high banker.
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
Originally using a 17hp engine with a high volume water jet pump. Supplied enough water volume to fill a nice size swimming pool in short order. But, I found that the my dredge was a bit on the heavy side, so I've started to lighten up a tad. Hope to Drop almost 35 pounds in all. However, before I go dropping the cash and weight... I figure that I might try to get feedback and reasoned advice from everyone. Found an engine-pump assembly that looks OK - a 6.5hp, 14,260 gph with max pumping height of 98 feet, head pressure of 98 psi. Cost is $329 at Home Depot, delivery included. Using on a 4" power jet - 2" log from Keene. Here's the Home Depot link below.

Right mouse click the link for it to function properly.

6.5 HP Gas-Powered 3 in. Utility Water Pump-LF3WP-65 at The Home Depot

What do you think? Is it a winner or just a waste of time and money.

theres not enough GPM to make a 4 inch dredge work. maybe a 2,2 1/2,or possibly pushing a 3 inch. but to lighten your dredge, i had the same thoughts awhile back and use ABS plastic to make my new sluice and flair. the alum setup i had was 65 lbs. with everything in it. the ABS with the same contents was 35 lbs.

The psi is what your really lacking in as trash/semi solid/clear water cavitate, water runs around and around, because NOT a close tolerance pump--you can't hook up air AND then you also have a wimpy blaster nozle too. 3 way loss-hit craigslist as plenty of keene, proline, nugget pumps out there for sale. Good advice... will look for a pump deal on craigslist or just shell out the cash for the pump. By the way, these Lifan engines work great. Used one all summer, always started up w/o a single problem. Just a heads up to you guys like me... Vets with service connected disabilities get a 10% discount at Home Depot or Lowes every day. Get to your local VA Hospital to get a free picture ID. Just bring your DD214.
