I found some finds today from the Civil War. I found this letter T pin not far from a Dragoon button with the backmark of WH.Horstmann & Sons.PHI. and some other finds, but not for sure about if the pin would be from this campsite?
it is brass with the 2 brass wires soldered to the back and is about 1 1/2 inches.
When I first dug It, it reminded me of a Union Company letter pin that the soldiers would wear, but not for sure, being it's a T.

Thanks for any Help,
Nova Treasure

I just found another Brass Letter, but a L this time. it also has a wire braid on the back for fastening to probably leather i would think?

Any help would be appreiciated,
Nova Treasure

Interesting finds,I am not thinking those are "letters",though,I may be wrong and cant tell ya what they are they just dont strike me as insignia.Very crude really for that?I hope they are though

Could it have been a brace or braket for something or backing? That would allow a item to be attached also? I will have to see if i can find a example of what I am trying to say.

they are different and I have spent many hours trying to figure out there use. The CW Company insignias that i have seen are similar but in a thinner type form, so i just don't know?
if the braids in the back are for mounting on to something, i would think it would be to leather because they are a stronger type wire.
The History surrounding where I found them is a Union made CW hospital, which the building was only about 200 ft on the South side of this property from where I am Detecting. There was also a Catholic Academy built in 1819 that also connected to the west side of the property. A large 1700's Cemetary is on the north corner and 35,000 men was camped in this area during the CW War.
Does any of this fit with the pieces? well I hope it might but I may never know.

Thanks,Bill

well given the "history" of the general area --heres a few "wild guesses"- with the letters L and T --- caThoLic academy is a strong contender * ---not knowing the "name" of the cemetary , it could be from a name board from it maybe as well. --- civil war era --Texas or Tennesse / Louisana are possibles as is hospiTiaL

My first inclination was this too.

But for my guess "L T" = "Lieutenant"
