Hey all,
I went out today knowing it was cold, but it didn't feel too bad... Had been out for about 20 min's and my finger tips wasn't even cold yet. 8) Found a few dimes and a couple af pennies. Then as I started to cut another plug it happened? :'(

Sure didn't take much to brake it, I guess the cold was just too much for it.
I couldn't believe it... I have used and abused this knife in the past.

It was actually a lot colder then what it felt like,, to me anyways...
Not sure if it was because I was out of the wind, or what, but as I said I hadn't got cold yet...

man that stinks. Its all inthe name of MDing. I am having a tough time breaking from it myself, just cant put those darned detectors away for the season.

I love the cold.As i'm "stuck"here in FL.,You can't even go camping down here but 1-2 months out of the year, unless you want to get eaten alive by mosquitos or sweat to death inside your tent.Too bad about your diggin knife.BTW-its going down to the 40's tonight,oh boy!Hope I don't freeze hahaha, maybe i'll pitch the tent in the back yard!

You're crazy Leon, that wind was cold here today. Burrrrr Stinks with what happend with your digging utensil, probaly ground to frozen for it.

It is like 10 deg. here in massachusetts right now. The ground is like cement. Beaches and volly ball courts are about the only game in town. Went down to the Ct. coast yesterday and got perission to hunt some old fields. Found one large cent before getting rained out. Got it soaking now 18? something I hope it comes back.Cladius.

Thats odd! It wasnt near cold enough for it to break like that! Its not like you dipped it in liquid nitrogen or something ???

Hey mbrolin, I been called crazy before ::) lol... No, from looking at the temp, that's what I thought, but I went outside for a few and it didn't feel too bad to me, so I went detecting..
It wasn't too bad were I was at, shielded by a few building and out of the wind...
And your right True_Metal,,, it does seem unlikely that 27 degrees would be enough to do anything to the steal..
I received a personal message from someone on the forum. They said that they had one break on them and when talking to the sales lady about buying a new one,,, she told them that they had a batch of the knifes that didn't get tempered properly, and went ahead and sent him a new one for free...
I sent the company my sad, sad story about the knife, told them it had been a great knife up until now...
Maybe I'll get lucky, and they'll send me a new one ;D If not, I guess I'll buy another one and be more careful
the next time...

Let us know what brand of digging knife that is and if they replace it.
If they will stand behind it I may buy one for my next digging tool.

Hi swingingmyXLT,
The knife was a " Sierra Dig It "... As seen on the top of the page below:
http://www.jimmysierra.com/toolsZ.htm
Don't get me wrong,, this has been a great diging tool,,, not sure what happened yesterday,, it happened so quick, it was over and done with before I knew it...
It had only been cold for a day or two, so the ground was not frozen. I don't know if I just got it caught between a rock and a hard place. or what...
I'll let you know how it comes out...

Usually you can look at the surface right at the break and get a hint . If it is all bright then it broke in one shot . If only the last little strip of steel is bright and the rest is dull then it happened over time .

Great news,,,
The Company is replacing the knife at no charge, and said the manufacturer had a bad batch of them where something was wrong with the tempering of the blade...
I would also like to add that they were very quick in responding to my e-mail...
I plan on purchasing another one for a back up ;D

Congragulations Leon, on getting a replacement. That wind was pretty strong that day, I guess it might be alright if you were out of it, that wind was cold
