Hello All
I live in MA and I bought an old house and was renovating it when I found a stash of old coins that might be valuable, as per Ebay like 2k-3k each.
they where hidden behind a wall, behind a chimney wall within the bricks.
are they mine ? do I have to report them? whats the rule of thumb here.
Thank you.

I'm not an attorney but, I would think if you bought the house, you own it, the land that it sits on, the fireplace, the chimney, the ashes, dirt, soot, & bricks, and anything else that is on the property. I'm guessing the coins are many years old & the person that put them there is long gone, & who knows who that person was.
They belong to you in my opinion & if I were on a jury, I would rule in your favor.
Congrats on your find !! Keep us informed. Would love to hear more.

Congratulations on your cool finds! I would say that the coins are yours to do with as you want.

How long have you owned the house? Did you buy it after some old person died? If so, his heirs might have a claim to it. I say keep a low profile and sell them one at a time on Craigslist. You don't want to leave a paper trail. That will get the attention of the IRS and maybe even the deceased person's heirs will get wind of it (if that's the case).

Here's an example of the previous homeowner's relatives getting $500,000 that was found in a wall. The current owner got jack squat! You have been warned!

After I posted, I thought about the same thing. When something is found, many people will try to get their claws into it and lay claim & the lawyers end up making most of the money. Could have been 4 or 5 different owners before the OP all screaming; "That belongs to us !!! " I agree with you. Keep a low profile.
On a different note, did you see this sad news:
The grim Reaper has been after Gary for years. R.I.P Mr. Rossington. Thanks for the great music.

Don't base value on ebay asking prices, you often see face value coins with huge price tags. Sold ebay listings can be a good indicator, but remember there are valuable variations and conditions and there may be common low value coins of the same type and year.

IZMIZ First off YOUR Porobably not going to like my answer. So here goes. You ask us people here on treasure net. I would bet not many on here know the MA laws. To be on the safe side CONTACT a MA lawyer and get the legal advice. A lot of us on here probably do NOT KNOW your STATES laws !! I congratulate you on your finds :) I am sure we would like to see a picture of them :)BUT do not disclose anything about them that could cause you loss or harm !!!

Jose The Goon, yes, I did see that Gary Rossington died. He was a tough dude. Must have had 5 or 6 heart operations over the years. He also survived car crashes and a plane crash, but his body finally gave out...

If its going to be worth more than a few tens of thousands I would suggest getting an opinion from an actual lawyer. I can't speak for any weird laws from the county/state you live in. Wait to post pics until you know they are you're free and clear, but definitely post pics!

If you read the article this is about a contractor trying to keep coins they found on someone else's property, so its completely irrelevant to this situation. If you buy a property and find anything of value on it, the previous owners have no legal standing to claim it. OP needs to understand these coins are his, the only person with any claim would be the tax man.
