I travel a lot in the PNW for my work in the USA.

When I am headed around the area I always have the AT Pro in the car with me. This way when I see a spot I can detect for an hour or so between business issues I have it with me. Quite often I will attend a meeting or be at a business event during part of the mid day. Because of this the car is often parked with the sunshine here in summer reaching the upper 90's and above.

How do you guys handle leaving the detector in the car all that time in the sunshine roasting your MD all afternoon? Maybe it does not matter? My Garmin GPS and and my Escort Radar detector have not died, nor has the car audio system including the Satellite radio. All that is fine electronics.

So is it just fine to leave the AT Pro sitting in the back of the car okay?

bottom line --- blistering summer heat and metal detectors are a very bad mix --don't do it -- the batteries can leak ruininng your gear , the motherboard can warp screwing up the curcuits ,ect, ect.

I break mine down and keep it in an ice chest with sealed freezer packs or frozen bottles of water in it.

I'm sure extreme heat or cold can damage a detector but I still leave my detector in the truck 24/7. My DFX has been in my truck non-stop for many years with the Sunray inline probe and they both work exactly how they should. I always keep the sun shade in the back of the SUV closed so it is not in direct sunlight. I do this more for a security reason but I'm sure it also keeps the detector a little cooler in the summer.

I'm in no way saying you should leave your detector in the car but this has been my experience.

Ya, I would certainly not just leave it in the vehicle. If it is 90 degrees outside, how hot do you think your care gets inside? It would shock you.

I work specifically with electronics that end up in vehicles. Batteries, screens, cables, etc. all degrade much much faster in extreme heat than not. You could take something that has a lifespan of 20 years and degrade it to the point that it only lasts 3-5 years.

I would find a better plan than leaving it in your car.
