:hello:

it's been hard going over the past couple of weeks :'( a few factors have lead to this ::) the Villa field which I have been waiting for, was not ploughed :dontknow: and the outher fields still in wheat stubble :(

I thought I would give the Villa another try to see if I could winkle a Silver out :P allass it was not to be, well not a Roman one anyway

Bullhead Shilling 1817
A small religious pendant
hammered Silver? (not even worth a pic)
15 Roman Bronze coins, (including my smallest ever :o at 6mm)
And a whatsit(see last picture)

Hi SS
It has also been pretty hard down here recently, due to a few nighthawk attacks, our local farmers have tarred everyone with the same brush. Hundreds of acres of stubble fields have been ploughed, disced and rolled but we have been refused access, but a light at the end of the tunnel with the recent publication of the Saxon hoard. There are about 150 acres of potato fields due to be harvested and we (3) have been promised permission to detect.
Anyway, back on topic, although the bullhead has a few scratches I would be happy with it, the religious pendant (sweet),your Romans are easily up to my usual standard if not better and, as for the last pics, I will stay away from ornate pipe tamper and postulate some kind of brooch if the marks on the back could be construed as fittings. I am sure Cru, having a lot more experience and books than I, will be able to ID it.But having said all that well done.

the last pic looked like it might have been an old clasp or pin !
Not quite sure what it might have been Mate :icon_scratch: I was wondering if the slots were where leather was pased through to secure it :dontknow:

I know it only half the piece, but still rather small. Could it be a clog fastener? We don't find to many of them over here so not sure exactly how they worked :D

How long is the wheat stubble there?
I hunted it in MI and it was only about 4" high.
Wonder if they use the same harvesting method?
And please forgive me, but it looks like that Mary is giving me the middle finger.
???
:hello:

the wheat stubble is about 10" high, a nightmare :-\ as for Mary, I forgive you. but God might not :-\

Hey SS,

If that is lean pickins', give me some. :D :notworthy:
You guys slay me.
If by nighthawks, you are referring to folks doing a little night digging, uninvited, they give all a bad name, on both sides of the pond. It is probably going to get worse, with the Staffordshire find. That'll bring 'em all out of the woodwork. Like roaches. Disgusting!

Best,
BW
