Leaf/Seat Spring??

So my nephew in NC found this in his yard today. He found a CW button there a few months back. They thought it was supposed to be a complete circle-like a barrel ring, but I’m not seeing it. To me it looks like some sort of leaf spring or seat spring, but I really have no idea. I’d sure appreciate if y’all could help me give him an ID.

I would say a band of sorts. A spring would not have a joint in the middle.

But that’s not a joint in the middle, the ends are larger than the rest.

Seems too long to be a leaf spring.
