Looks early 1900s but no idea what it went on.
Early 1900s fits as it looks to be a type of spelter or pot metal. Just not sure what it attached to, if someone could read it, it would help.If it helps, the house was built in 1910, but before that it was farm field dating at least back to the 1870s. Little ways south of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Part of what was the Great Black Swamp before they started draining it starting in the 1850s.

Maybe? But it does give me an idea though. I might try melting some wax and then pressing this on it to see if I can get a clearer idea of the writing. What do you guys think?
Would be reversed... but worth a try.
Also... a "sepia" / "negative"... pic may reveal something as well.
There re a few users here that may alter your picture in this way in hopes of bringing out a / some detail.
But ?
