I found this item over 20 years ago and have always wondered what it was. Found on a vacant lot in downtown Orangeburg, SC. Good bit of military history there.
It is lead, about the circumference of a dime and has threaded area on the back. Always thought it may be top to a vial or some small medicinal bottle. The star is what throws me. Any help would be appreciated.

Unless there was a brief blip in time when designer nails were all the rage, to me it looks too large and ornate to be a nail seal. Carpenters have historically cut every invisible corner, and if there was a Star Nail Co. it must have marked the peak of America's nail movement. Whatever the case, it would still be nice to nail this item down. Ok, that was awful.

I just made a reference to it but it may be a good time to bump it up to see if anyone knows anything.
