Just got back from an absolutely AMAZING hunt with my Dad and I am SHOCKED!!:metaldetector:

We have a local permission in Yorktown, VA, yes that Yorktown!! There is a church there that was used there since well before the Civil war, and is still used today. In the past we have found miniballs, buttons and even a SNY Belt Plate. Today I was using a new program for my XP Deus, and decided to try out a trashy area that we have purposely avoided in the past. I am so Glad we did! I started off finding a few miniballs, so I decided to stick to a 50' x 50' area around those. 10 minutes later I got a really high tone on the Deus right next to a small tree. I dug it and 10-11 inches later, out pops a coin. What I saw almost stopped my heart, not one bust looking right, but two! A 1694 William and Mary Half Penny!!! I literally fell over with excitment and immediately called Parsonwalker, and Mudduck to confirm what I had found!!

On the way out I found this, about 10 inches down. I am hoping one of you guys or gals will be able to identify it for me. I originally thought it was a rifle but plate, but Parsonwalker disagrees. Anyone know???

I also found a load of Flat buttons, a few more miniballs, a random 1945 war nickle, and a harmonica reed.

Overall, the Best detecting day I've had in a long time, and I was blessed to have this amazing day with my Dad!

Thanks for reading!

What a great day, amazing finds!

Congratulations on finding a bucketlister. Good job of getting a historical permission site too.

Oh my, that is wonderful. That W&M is in the best condition I've ever seen for an excavated one this side of the pond. Normally we only get the remains of King W's ribbon!

I can't hazard a guess on the other, as those mid-body crescents have me thrown. But I look forward to the id and pics of it cleaned.

Good luck, keep us posted.

SWEET! :hello2:Congratulations - Wow! :notworthy:

Your William and Mary copper is fantastic :icon_thumleft: I really like the etched piece a lot... looks old too. I really like finding things like that that were hand etched. My only guess is some sort of large leather ornament or saddle ornament. I look forward to seeing what others say about it.

Fantastic coin find-those are very rare in the states, and yours is in impressive condition. :occasion14:

Wow! That is an amazing pile of goodies! Love the musket plate. I would prefer something like that over almost anything! Great saves and thanks for sharing!

Could the etched brass piece have been some sort of saddle decoration? It appears to have two "tangs" on the back that may have attached to leather.

It is slightly curved and has 4 attachments on the back

Thanks, what is also cool is that I live about 15 mins from the College of William and Mary here in Williamsburg, Virginia. Lot of William and Mary influence around here.

Excellent! Old Virginia has the goodies, that's for sure.

If I find a war nickel it's probably the "highlight" of my post. You find a war nickel and it doesn't even make the photo session. Walks away dejected...:sad7:

Beautiful early coin and love that pile of buttons to ! :occasion14:

Super nice copper and one you don't see too often. Congrats

That is one awesome coin! The condition is outstanding, given the age. Seems like whenever I pull an old copper out of the ground up here in Massachusetts, its pretty much obliterated. Very jealous. Congratulations!!!
