Heading back up to Laurel Hill hopefully tomorrow afternoon.
And hopefully get over to Horsethief meadows Friday.

Hey Tuberale. I am sending you a private message hope you are still around. Thank you also for all the information everyone, please feel free to keep it coming.

Got up there to the base of Laurel hill. Got up by the first shute going up the mountain. Lots and lots of burnt old cedar trees just about everywhere.

Also have a whites TM-808 and xterra with 15" in coil. if anyone wants to go look for caches feel free to PM.

Old fireplace found on the Oregon trail near Barlow Creek. It was said a trading post was near here with a stove(fireplace) in the cabin. It was rare to get a stove across the trail back then in this area. You hear of any old cabin stories near the Mt hood area, might be worth checking into.

I am starting to think the burnt part of the tree might be bs after reading this (second pic). The approximate area is completely singed so why would you burn a stump when most likely all the stumps would already be burnt? Just don't jive unless it was in a unburnt area

Just pulled by copy of Thomas P. Terry's "Treasure Map Atlas", c. 1974. Includes this as:

"28 A treasure cache was buried under marked cedar trees in the area of Laurel Hill in Clackamas County."

Terry also notes:

"15 $46,000 in bandit loot is located on Laurel Hill." I believe this reference was for a cache by a group of horsethiefs who buried their money while being pursued by angry early pioneers. In the 1850-1870 period, stealing a horse was nearly equivalent to killing a man, and early horsethieves were summarily hung.

Terry is vague here, with references to 14-15-16 in the same area with similar amounts supposedly concealed:

"14 Outlaws buried $85,000 in Hood River County.

15 $46,000 in bandit loot is located on Laurel Hill.

16 Outlaw loot is buried at Horse Thief Meadows in the Mt. Hood area. $35,000 in gold coins is cached at Barlow Pass."

Sounds like different versions of the same story. With no name mentioned to research further, best to go back to original sources. I think Ruby El Hult in "Lost Mines and Treasures of the Pacific Northwest" has the best research.

Hey Indy Jones. Have you done any work or research on the Horsethief meadows story? I live about 10 miles from there and have spent many hours with my detector in that area. But I'm always looking for more information. Give me a shout and we'll trade info. Home email ( [email protected]) Faster then the treasure sight.

The truth is out there.

JG.
