Hello there,
I have been out about 6 times since my last post still hitting various parks that i find on my travels around Maryland. Below are my latest finds. I got my first silver in the form of a St. Jude's Medal. It says "Sterling and Grenci" on the back. That means it is pure silver? I found tons of clad lately and 5 wheats as pictures below. Tried electrolysis on one of the real bad wheats. I used olive oil first and got the date 1920 and then the electrolysis knocked away the date. Lesson learned.
Found the horseshoe, square nails and the shotgun shell in a Pennsylvania park. The shell says " Winchester Repeater No. 12" the inner ring says "WRA Co. NEW H". I looked this up but it was confusing on the dating as Winchester has been so many different companies with close to the same markings. Any help on the date of this shell?
The liquor cap goes back to a Philadelphia distillery in the 1920s called KASKO. Only reference I found for them on the net was a law suit review from the 1940s. Anyone in the Philly area know anything about them?
I found a huge piece of iron the size of a pool ball. It was found at about 9 inches in an area that had Revolutionary, War of 1812 and Civil War activity. Do you think it may be part of a cannon ball?
The first picture has the smaller whatizits that i needed help with. Here are their descriptions:
Whatizit 1 - looks like a hinged cap to something. It is painted green and has a nipple on the top. Looks like the top to a toy tank.
Whatizit 2 - Cruched round piece of steel with four vents in it. Part of a shell?
Whatizit 3 - Thin metal threaded closed round top. Have no idea?
I also found some big items that I am unsure what they are. They are pictured under Big What are they:
Whatizit 1 - Copper and Porcelin hard knob with clamps. I thought it was part of a door but it is definitely porcelin. Heavy piece.
Whatizit 2 - Gear on a piece of slotted metal.
Whatizit 3 - Handle of some sort. I have seen this somewhere before. Found in the same place as the horseshoe and shotgun shell.
Whatizit 4 - Buckle?
Whatizit 5 - It is shaped like a pringle potato chip. Has a hole in the center. Found at about 12 inches near a 18th century era house. Is it a plate of some sort or a tool?
Any and all help is appreciated. Still love finding this stuff and glad I bought the DFX.
Thanks! BaltJoe
