We were quite surprised that someone mowed! I expected an overgrown weedy mess! Bob found the 3rd silver coin we ever found here. Coins have been scarce. I scored the first toy we ever found here. It's Tom, Tom the Pipers Son! Surprising we haven't found any toys as I know a lot of kids lived here long ago. Found the coolest butter knife handle we've found. I found a "pretty little rock" that Bob was excited about as he says it is the flint from a flintlock gun. I think he's right! We don't find many rocks of any kind here. It came up in a plug with some tin. It is so quiet out here and I love the birds and little critters. I hope you all have a favorite place!

Love old homesteads like that
This permission has been amazing. Cool history that dates back to the early 1800s. Must have bartered a lot though because coins are scarce. LOTS of iron. The oldest stuff is in the fields, but they are planted. It just feels so peaceful and quiet out there. It's like stepping back in time somehow.

Sure looks like an enticing place to go detecting! You both did well on this hunt. I love " Tom"...what a cool little toy.
Comgrats!
It is an awesome place. And it's on a sand prairie so digging is a breeze! Keeps stuff like Tom looking nice too! Very little corrosion.

Well done on your latest hunt getting the great looking toy figure and the silver.

Over the years what I have discovered with many homesteads is there can be an older area.
Meaning that they lived in an original dwelling (starter home)before the main place was constructed.
These might be within a few hundred feet of the house/structures that have been mapped or are recorded.

You are right. We found 2 other sites in the fields. There is limited opportunities between soybeans and winter wheat crops! I don't know how anything grows in that sand but it does well.

It's odd that some places that have all appearances of being productive of coins have few or none and some have lots. I'm referring to places I have detected where I have been the first one to detect them, as far as I know, so it does not seem to be a matter of their having been detected out. Some people just seem to use, or to lose, more coins than others.

So true. I think in old coins we have done better in quantity at our old heavily pounded park but did find our oldest US coin (1846) at the farm. Although we did get a 1790s Chinese coin at the park.
