Me and two buddies hit a spot we’ve been beating up for a few years. It got cut in sections because it was too wet to hay in some spots. A few weeks ago I got my first half dime there and that was only the second silver coin to come up out of this 100+ acre colonial farm. It has given up a ton of very cool colonial relics and a handful of smoke coppers. Anyway, I went to one of the fields that got cut late in the season, working my way along the edge, digging mostly crap with occasional reins guide thingie, then I got a 62 on my Deus ll, popped the plug………… 12 gauge head stamp, but right next to it was a crispy little 88 at about 6”, when I first popped the plug I thought it was aluminum cuz it was pretty shiny, then I looked at the back while it was still in the plug and I thought it was going to be one of those aluminum grocery store tokens I love so much ( sarcasm) but my to my utter delight it was a 1709 2 Reale 😀👍🏻 my first 2 and now my oldest silver to date. What gives me a headache, and I will brush up on my Spanish Kings is I thought Carolvs lll reined in the late 1700’s so I must be misssing something and I will read up on these guys. I also got a wheatie which I think I lost and a smoked KGll ( I think) great way to end the year and it was a year for uncommon silver coins ( for me anyway) with a 1827 capped bust dime, Fillp V one Reale (1723) , 1857 half dime and a 1913 KGV 5 cent silver plus the usual barbers, mercs, walkers and the like.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!! Stay safe and healthy!!!!!!!!
