Squeezed in one last hunt on the 31st. It looks like it will be the last one for a while. We are at 13 degrees and snowing in Cincinnati today.
I played baseball growing up, and I started to re-trace some of the old fields I played in. I took a chance on one in an area called Deer Park. I figured it must be good if the whole area is a "park". I was rewarded with my first SLQ (no date, but you can see an "M" near where the date should be) Is that a designer's name? If anyone knows, I would be interested. Dug a couple quarters, then a nice Mercury Dime. Some more clad and then a gold ring. It is 10k and from a local high school. Dated 1970. It does have initials in it, so I emailed the school asking for a 1970 class list. It might be hard to track down, b/c the school is all girls and marriage makes the name dificult to look up. I'll let the board know if I am able to return it. About an hour in, I got the call from the boss and had to leave. I plan on going back to this area many more times......

Yes that's the designers initial, Hermon A MacNeil. Great finds to say the least, especially the gold ring. Great finds and thanks for sharing.

Hey Jon. Try looking at 1970 for that school on Classmates.com. The girls usually post their maiden name on there. She may be on that website. Just a thought and another shot at it. I have returned a couple of class rings and it is a thrill. My oldest was from 1957.

I lost my Police Academy Ring in a foot chase in a farm field after a guy I was chasing in a car wrecked then bailed and ran at night. I chased the rascal on foot for about a quarter mile in the dark before I caught up to him. Actually a .357 Super Vel just over his right shoulder convinced him to stop. You could do that back then. I didn't realize my ring was gone till I was writing a report later. I had only had the ring about a week fresh out of the Academy. I haven't found it and the farmer's wife ran me off the property years later when I went back to look for it with a detector. I would really like to get that back.

Good luck on your search.

Jim

UPDATE ON FOUND CLASS RING

Chief, et al.

Your idea about classmates worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found a person with the initials "SK" on the classmates site. The ring says "SMK". So I clicked the button to email the person and a different last name popped up. She had registered with her maiden name like you said. I then ran a google search for the married name and came up with a phone number. Called and left a weird message about how I might have her class ring. I got a call last night from her and we had a great talk. It was hers, and she had been to the place where I found the ring. She didn't remember where she lost it, but was very excited about getting it back. It turns out that her husband metal detects(small world...). Anyway, I will continue to update the story with the details on how it worked out. Hopefully, I'll get a thank you letter or something I can post.
Regards,
Jon Dickinson.

WTG Jon,
Nice finds and to bad your SLQ was a dateless one. You are sure to find more, because it seems like you are hot on the trail to some good hunting.
SLQ is on my list to find this year and I do believe I will find more than one.
HH.
