I want to thank everyone for all their thoughts, prayers, phone calls, and emails. It has really meant a lot to me. For those who don't know, I broke my leg when a ladder slipped out from under me while cleaning out the house gutters for my widowed mother-in-law. I broke both bones in my left leg just above the ankle. The surgeon had to put the bones back together with plates and screws Thursday morning. Little did I know, last Tuesday would be my last hunt for the year. I had about an hour to hunt so I went around a house that I had previously hunted. I knew there couldn't be much left there but I just wanted to get out. The homeowners had torn out some big bushes from the front yard. This is where I concentrated my hunt. I found one clad quarter, some Memorial pennies, a 1955D wheat penny, a 1960 Canadian penny, and a charm for a necklace. I also got a key, a toy pistol, and a toy car. I have been metal detecting for over 40 years and I have learned to appreciate every hunt because you never know when you will not be able to hunt for a while.
Thanks for looking,
Dman

Sorry to hear of your accident. I understand about broken bones, and it happens in seconds, as my wife had two surgeries a week apart to fix hers. I was the chief-cook and bottle-washer for months... To help you and your family adjust to your accident and healing time, hopefully the Homeowner's Insurance will help with the bills and maybe the comments below can help, too:

Take your meds, do your rehab, and listen to the Doctor when he says to stay off of it....and don't push it.... My wife's Doctor told of a "Senior Citizen" lady that broke her stainless steel plate and rebroke the bone because she was going to carry out the trash, come Hell-or-High-Water.

Pride or not, get yourself a raised chair for the toilet...your upper body muscles will take a load off your good leg. If not, in addition to your normal routine each day around the house of just getting up and moving around and setting some place else, you'll put too much stress on your one good knee and leg. It will start to hurt and you'll be visiting the Doc again in two or three years for the slow damage you caused it.

The good side of this is that now your Mother-in-law is now forever under your thumb... :icon_sunny:

It's going to be a cold winter and a wet spring, anyway. Heal well and be ready for some good hunting after they are over.

get well soon! thought that toy gun was real at 1st glance :o

I feel your pain Dman! :'( I broke my tibula and my fibula on my right leg back in 1998!
The doctors wanted to set my leg with pins too, but I said, "lets see how it sets"!
They then had to re-break and re-set my leg twice in 4 months to get it to heal properly!

I now walk in circles to the right, but I cover a lot extra ground that way when I'm hunting! :laughing7:

Now that is funny. Thanks for sharing. Every email letter or comment helps makes the day go by.

Hey Dman i just came up with a great idea, put a big wheel on that cast and get out there! The 2 plates and 14 screws sounds like my finds last weekend, hope they didn't use dug screws. Hope you heal fast. HH
