We finally got a small weather window to get out for a quick bottle dive under one of the large bridges that span between Halifax and Dartmouth, NS. Steve and I decided to dive Mid span in the deeper water while the other 3 guys went in closer to shore. We have done hundreds of dives mid span so the pickings are quite slim now but we were optimistic. Steve went first and 35 minutes later he surfaced with "Zip". Now I was rethinking our plan but I decided to go for it anyway. I hit the bottom at 75 ft and right away I found an ink well in perfect condition, maybe this wont be too bad after all I thought. A few minutes later I found a clay pipe bowl, then the finds dried up. I spent most of my time swimming without see too much other then a few more pipe pieces and then I see what I though was a diver, turned out to be a little parachuter guy that someone had through off the bridge. Looks like he had a chute failure and I think he crapped himself on the way down, he doesn't have a nice look on his face either.
The other guys did fantasticclay pipes a cod stopper bottle from Barbadoes several crocks 2 coppas and some other due dads.

That Half Circle Thing Looks Like It May Be Part Of A Shoulder Scale.

Looks like a blast...I'll have to join you guys on a dive someday...although I think I would be one of the guys staying closer to shore. My diving experience is about 100 hours in the Great Lakes and Georgian Bay...

Always good to be underwater!!

We can do a dive in a spot I know that is only 15ft at the deepest and always produces clay pipe bowls and some very nice bottles.

Congrats on your finds and squeezing out one last hunt! Interesting stuff, I like the little blue bottle.

Looks like we'll be getting snow for New Years....sigh. Well, time to switch gears and get into hunting a different way & place. I sure will miss ground hunting.

You posted pics ! I hope T Net is accepting pics now, I was beginning to go into treasure withdrawal .

That's a super amount of real treasure finding!

It does amaze me how much good stuff is just under the surface that most of us will never see

Me too IH, I have been doing this for over 30 years and it still amazes me.

Awesome finds, love the old crocks.

Thank you for sharing your great finds.

Happy New Year, stay safe,

Matt

Great that you're still able to have your treasure hunting in the cold months. It really is amazing what lies on the floors of lakes and oceans. I've always wanted to dive Moosehead Lake here in Maine which had several spots of winter dumping on it. There was a very prestigious lodge called Kineo that dumped all of their stuff on the ice and let it sink. I need to get my butt down there and save some of those goodies. You're inspiring me buddy :-)

Momma always said you looked like a fish in da water

Hi Ahab, your right that lake sounds like it could be an awesome place with lots of goodies to find. Lakes are also much kinder then the ocean on glass and metals.
Let me know if you need a diving buddy for a weekend. I would be happy to shoot over and do a few dives with you, but it will have to wait untill after April. I am working a 3 month term and then back into semi-retirement.

Hey JB, The green/black glass is an old 3 piece mold, beer bottle from the 1800s. Years ago one of our buddies found one that still had the beer inside it. the cork was inplace but the wire had rusted off. When he got it home the cork popped out, I guess the smell was pretty bad but he said it still smelled a bit like beer.
Have a great New Year buddy,
ZDD

I would absolutely love that ZDD. I will be in touch. I have family up there and a great cabin we can stay at. It's a neat little town and I'd love to detect Kineo as well. The Lodge there was frequented by many famous people in the 1800s including Henry David Thoreau. Another interesting aspect is that Kineo is made mostly of a rock called Rhyolite which was the desired stone for Indians to make their implements from. They would hike hundreds of miles just to collect this precious type of stone. Sorry bout the rambling but I'm really excited about getting up there this spring or summer!

Sounds great, we will have to make it happen.

Nearly New Year's Greetings, ZDD,

Great recoveries, sir! Looks like you hit a stoneware zone. Man, looking at the above photo, I'm not only shivering, but saying, "nice photos, ZDD, but you are asking for the ill effects of thermal shock on the glass, using the frozen frame background."

I love the British blackings and stone utilities. I'm looking forward to après bath photos, after a decent temperature adjustment. 8-) Don't forget about the folks in the Bottle Basement with these guys. They'll wanna hear more & see more.

Looks like you found a couple of old arsed pipes, as well. Hot toddies, all around, sez I! And more photos, too, please. What about that Codd?

Way to jump off the cursed photo hiatus we just experienced.

Hey Surf, good suggestion posting on the bottle forum, I should load up some killer bottles and post em up.
No worries about thermal shock here, the watery tomb these babies came from was almost the same temp as that snow. 39*F. Cold for this time of year.
I love the pipes, every now and then we get lucky and pick up a complete one. Last dive we did we picked up 2 of them.

The Codd bottle is a Whitfields soda water circa 1898, Lacated at 15 Broad St. in the Barbados. The Codd bottle was invented by Hiram Codd in 1872. This is not the first Whitfields Codd that we found but it is in the best condition.
Yes, I hope to post up many good pix this winter, if the weather would cooperate a little.
All the best in the New Year Surf,
ZDD
