Hi All,
It's great to see all the awesome finds lately! Spring is Sprung I guess :hello2:
Got out for two hunts in the last few days, nothing spectacular found.
Some odd relics & a bit o Old Silver.
First hunt was Cob Cove again.
Got another brass medical instrument, a bulb Syringe, am posting it with another instrument found earlier.
a 26mm Hotchkiss AutoCannon round at the ammo site. probably Indian/Spanish war.
A brass something encrusted in Iron, (treasure, no, turns out to be a brass pipe plug)
Strange lead mallet :icon_scratch:
a bit of plated tin thimble, and more heavy brass hardware.
Second hunt was short and inland.
Got permission to search 60 acres of former farmland with a 1770 home, and 3 known foundations in the woods.
found the remains of an early mill way back in the woods, I'll bet the pond it held back was a popular swimming hole too.
I need practice on these inland sites, I am only experienced digging salt mud.
In the lot on the side of the house I got a thin (19 grams) sterling spoon :hello2:
& handle of a plated piece.
Spoon reads 'JP Safford' I believe. Can't find any info on him as an American or Canadian Silversmith, can anyone find info on this maker? :help:
Well, I will be swinging, and hope to jump the 'Finds Train' that seems to be rolling along here !
Good Day & thanks for looking :hello:

Good finds!! The bulb syringe is about the right size and shape of the ones used to clean mucus from a babies nostrils.

I would hazard a guess that the foundation you found these (medical) instruments near, once housed a practicing M.D.

Congratulations on some nice historic finds!!

Oh yeah, maybe that silver spoon fell out of the babies mouth during birth. :dontknow: :laughing7:

I couldn't find anything on your makers mark either. :dontknow: But that spoon is a great find! :icon_thumright:

Great finds Herbie! I really like that Hotchkiss auto-cannon round, haven't you found a few of those now? I enjoy seeing them, the big guns are my favorite kind! Keep em coming!

Got some nice recoveries there. See if you can tell if the water flow has any dead spots to it; you may find some things in it because of the lack of flow. I'm sure there's more at the site!

Every now and then I see something I have never seen before. That Bulb Syringe is definitely a new one for my eyes.Congrats :icon_thumright:

Nice Silver Spoon ...congrats !

The medical thing would be unusual find for sure.
I'd take a spoon like that, have yet to find a real silver one.

thanks all!
nana40, appreciate your research, Maybe locally made, still I've been able to find records of pretty obscure silversmiths :icon_scratch:
Being marked sterling dates it post 1800. (I believe) Love the Makers Mark :laughing7:
Jrsherman, you are correct, 2nd Hotchkiss round, this is a baby brother to the HE 37 MM, Both found in the area where all the Indian/Spanish war ammo is located.
I posted an update on the 37 as it has deteriorated and could be disassembled.
Nice intact 'Impact fuse' inside!
