Hi everyone. I am new to treasurenet and fairly new to metal detecting. I need help from more experienced people in identifying this object. I dug it up today...on a beach in west wales, uk. It was approximately 3' deep in the sand on the upper part of the beach. It is roughly 16" long...5" wide at one end and 6" wide at the other end. I dont know if i should soak it in clean water until someone more knowledgeable can take over or if i should discard it if it's just junk!!! Any help or opinions would be gratefully received. Thankyou. Now all i have to do is try to upload the pics!

Don't know. Might be a protective cover that went over a drive shaft of a tractor .

Why i ask was there is a P38 just under the sand in north west wales. But they have been keeping an eye on it for years.I thought you may have ran up on some of it.But with all the WW2 activity in that area you never know what you are going to find.It was just a thought and some hoping lol Good hunting and welcome to Tnet........ Considering the amount of agriculture in the area as well as ship traffic during and after WWII, it could possibly have had applications in either one! It definitely appears to be a cover of some sort, now is that tractor or a ship's boiler, it is hard to say.

It could be half of a mold for casting something. I'd check with local historians or archies.
