I found these iron buckles in an old military training field yesterday. They are both of different sizes and are fairly crude in construction, they were both deep at around 8". My question is in regard to function and date of manufacture, though I would assume they are horse buckles.

Here are pics of the buckles being found, as well as, a close up shot.

More then likely for a horse harness... These can date from the 16th too 19th century. Probably somewhere between 18th and 19th C. for yours!

I've found a large number of buckles hunting farms and old homesteads over the years. These buckles seem to be unusually large and relatively crude in construction compared to others that I've found. These were obviously made by a blacksmith, I just was hoping they might have a design characteristic that would date them to the 18th c.
