Large Cent & Silver

Took a trip with my good hunting friend Tom and met up with Joe G for a hunt in Long Island. We were swinging all over these grassy areas where farmlands once stood. It was pretty obvious that these places were not going to produce silver, but we kept going anyways. In a signal that jumped from dime to quarter on me came out what at first looked like a clad quarter, then I figured it was a token, but closer examination and weight led me to believe that it was an older copper coin. Tom and Joe looked at it and told me I had a Large Cent. I'm not too familiar with these. I know it's an older coin, but couldn't appreciate the find as well as someone else could've. I took photos in the condition I found it and photos after doing a few peroxide baths and Q-tip treatment. I think I'm going to leave it alone for now. I now know what people mean when they refer to these as a "Look what I found" item. There's just not much left to these things.
The next day I still needed a silver fix bad..........went out to one small pounded little park for four hours and came out with nothing..........two hours later I went to another small park where I had found two rosies and worked it until I found the merc dime below. I don't believe I would've made it home that day empty handed............it was a dig until something comes out kind of day.

nice large cent I would trade a hundred mercs for a draped bust.

Re: Large Cent & Silver

I always say, the LC is the hole in one of the metal detecting world. It is the 300 game in bowling. The LC is a coin that most detectorists will never find. But, why try and compare between which is better? It's all good!!!

Congrats again!
