I have not had much time to detect as of late but today after the thunder storms I was able to sneak out for an hour.

There is an old empty house that I've had my eye on but never got around to tracking down the owner. I was driving by last week and the house was being knocked down so I knew I had to hit the site be for progress made it off limits. Today I did a test hunt for an hour on just the area right next to the street. I still need to track down the owner before I enter the property and now I really have a reason to do so.

There was a large amount of junk signals from the tear down but I really enjoyed the keepers which included: a 1856 Large Cent, the face to a Breitling Bentley Watch (real or fake??), two flat buttons, P.F.Co. skeleton key, two Indian Cents (1890 and 1908) and 5 wheaties (oldest being 1919).

Can anyone tell if the watch is real? I think it is not but the wife thinks it is...I hope the wife is right. This watch sells for $7,000 and the diamond bezel sells for an extra $3,000.

Does anyone know what company the key is for?? It just reads P.F.Co..

I was really happy with the Large cent. I've found other large cents but this is by far in the best shape of the ones I've found with the full liberty. The flat button next to the large cent is marked PLATED on the back so I'm assuming silver plated and the other flat button is missing the shank which has a greek key pattern around the back of the button. I was surprised to see a pattern on the back but the front looks plain.

Tommorrow I have to track down the owner and see if I can get access to the entire site although from the outside looking in I think there will be tons of trash that will need to be removed but from the finds so far I think it will be worth it...plus I did not find any silver coins there yet.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting.

Took the watch to a jeweler and they checked the diamonds with a diamond tester and they are fakes. Oh well...maybe next time. Even though I thought it was fake there was a little part of me that was hoping it was real. I know a few people thought it may be the owners watch but this is doubtful since the house prior to being knocked down was empty for as long as I can remmember. The site is located on a pretty busy road so I think someone just threw it out the window into the brush.

I also checked out the owner and found out it is an LLC that purchased the property within the last two years which is not a good sign. Companies are usually less likely to let you on a property due to the possible liabilities of someone getting hurt but I still will reach out to them this week. I'm dying to get back there and check out the rest.

You had a great day! Please keep us updated on the watch, I did read what the one guy said but I agree that you should take it to a jeweler. Thanks for the post! HH tr

Way cool... real or fake it would excite me to find such a watch.
Not to mention the Large Cent.

Just seen this, (turned up on a search) and Breitlings rock! :headbang: Too bad it's not real because it would be worth a lot more than 10k! (more like 100k) :tongue3:

Thanks IP...wow that was an old post. That site has been turned into a parking lot but I may have to go back and detect the edges of grass.

Yeah, was just a fluke thing I came across it. On another post I made the comment that I don't find too many watches at my 200 year old sites, and that got me thinking... I wonder how many watches (of any kind) have been posted on the T-net.... and the answer is a lot! I only replied to this one because Breitling is the brand I like the most for the price. (and have two)

PS.... I have found two watches in 10 years and both were toasted pocket watches.

Thank you for all the feedback. I would take a dug large cent over an expensive watch any day of the week. I was just hoping it was real so I could finally sell a find to make some money. My wife keeps telling me I will never sell any of my finds. Thats not true...I will never sell any of my old finds but I really don't care about the modern jewelery. I'll have to bring the watch to a Jewler to confirm that it is a fake.

Thanks again for reading.

Guess I'm different :-X because a chunk of the money I made from my token find from last year I used to buy a watch. Of course if it had been a nice belt plate I'd still have the plate and not the watch.

I think the watch is worth getting a second opinion about. Check the inside stones, too.

Really nice collection! And even if the watch is confirmed fake by a second opinion, it still got your heartrate up, didn't it? The excitement of the search! Real, fake, or facsimile.

It's 100% without a doubt fake and like I said it would be about 100k watch. (and I'm guessing there's not even a real one that it will match to)

As a quick side note, Anthony Bello (sp) from Lost Treasure magazine used this watch in one of his stories. I have a copy of the magazine somewhere with the picture I posted above and a picture of a late 1800s gold pocket watch that I found at a different site.

Glad everyone is enjoying this post for the second time. IP breathing life into old posts...lol.

The large cent looks mighty fine. :hello2:

Thanks Kirk

Most of the large cents I find are at farm sites and they don't come out that nice as you are well aware of...
