Know its there but I know my machine cant "see" it- help!!

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

ok i love this post :) wish i were closer...this is just an idea...I dont know if it will work or if anyone has ever tried...has anyone ever made a probe with a pinpointer built in?? seems like its not an imposable size piece of land to probe...not saying it wont take time. but with a probe built in pinpointer you could for sure hit metal *ie* coins and get a reaction at a known depth "mark probe in inches".... mark with survey flags dig later...please let me know what you all think...O and i do have a backhoe but mn is a bit far...

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

I haven't done the pin-pointer probe thing but I have done the probe thing and the flag thing.

The real problems on the place are mainly 2 things. The salt in the soil close to the water makes it almost impossible to detect and that may be where the coins are. And 2, when I do the flag thing to dig later, it looks like your yard does after all the utility companies have come out to mark cables and pipes. Frickin flags everywhere. There is big rusted iron all over that place. I hate hunting around houses because of the trash but this one is crazy. There are sprinkler parts from the nursery business and there is at least one whole car in pieces buried everywhere on the land.

Thanks for the idea. Now I have a new one. I was running out of them.

How many miles to the gallon does the BH get. Maybe I can drive it down when I go in November.

Thanks Breezie. Yeah they ARE tough. We are staying in Amsterdam, she fell while she was in Faversham England. We have no health insurance once we leave the State of Minnesota. It's just been one great thing after another. And I found out, the hard way you could say, that the UK now excludes tourist from their national health service. It's pay as you go for any visitors.

I feel like using my shovel for a really deep hole.

And no Bigscoop, you didn't miss much. I just promised the person I would not reveal how many cans and how many coins until 6 months after I left. No trail to follow to his house. Sorry 'bout that.

Daryl

Hi Daryl,
I just read every single post in this thread, and have a machine suggestion for you. A buddy of mine has the Whites TDI Which uses Pulse technology, and has the ability to read thru iron if set properly. basically you can dig all Large targets, which means you'll find the rest of his toolbox orphans, but may save you some time anyway. My friend bought his machine after he was shown a demo in which the dealer put a quarter under a large steel plate, and when the machine swept, it only found the quarter! there are no graphs, meters, or even displays on this machine, so it's a learning curve to set it properly, but I think short of the backhoe, this is what you need. :)

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

That's a lot of reading!

If you can, find out how it handles salt. If it can handle high salt concentration in the soil, that may do it. My Garrett Infinium PI machine does OK and if this one is better, that is VERY good.

Thanks for the help.

I just called him and verified what I thought, this machine excels in salt water! it totally ignores it like it isn't even there. Jim.

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

So what might your buddy rent this to me for? A week might be all I could stand.

Since I am doing this as a volunteer, I'm on a "no budget" plan. And since I don't get a cut, I'm screwed. And I already have 5 detectors, you know the wife and the detector limit thing, right.

Thanks, and I hope this may be the trick.

I just sent you a PM. yes, I know the wife limit thing. LOL

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

I just read this thread and found it quite interesting and informative. One thing though, I just did the math and 60,000 half dollars is over 1,650 pounds. Or is my math way wrong??? I believe that would take a fair size hole and quite a few trips carrying it out to the hole to bury it. And quite a few cans to boot. Still a very interesting project.
I wish you the best and your wife a speedy and complete recovery.

Hi Rob,

My thoughts exactly. That's why I thought it would be an "easy" find. Boy was I wrong. I'm now thinking aluminum magnesium Vietnam era shell cases scattered along the salt water filled edge of the property. Not a good thing.

Thanks for the input. I need it.

One thing about treasure huntin' you gotta like diggin'

Now if it were me and not gettin' a cut, I would do the md'n and he would do the diggin' then when he gets tired of diggin'.......
re negotiate the deal to get a cut for doin the diggin' :tongue3:

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

Yeah you're right but I was just looking for something fun to do. The fun is in the finding right? :tongue3:

Yep......but finding trash aint that much fun. :tongue3:
and neither is digging.

To me the fun is not knowing what your'e gonna dig up next.
And Hilton Head is on the treasure coast!

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

If I didn't enjoy digging trash, I'd have to quit detecting. LOL

And EVERY square inch of Hilton Head is off limits to detecting. ALL of it public and private.

I must have misread the post I thought the property in question was on Hilton Head. :icon_scratch:
Sorry, this was the post that confused me: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,292663.msg2125818.html#msg2125818

I'll never say in a post where that type of a spot is. Heavy equipment at 2am in your yard while you are on vacation is not a good thing.

I think the math is right on. By my calculations it would be 40 to 50
of the old coffee cans full, 6 inch diameter by 6.75 inches tall.
I didn't have enough halves to fill one up so I am guesstimating.
I know $200 in clad halves is 10 pounds, just weighed it.
Say the cans were twice as big, you still buried 20+ very heavy cans,
80+lbs each. How could you forget where you did that???
That hole would be 3 feet diameter minimum if the cans were
set in side by side.
Is it possible this guy just wanted the junk dug out of his yard?

I am wondering why GG and the LRL guys aren't volunteering to
locate this for you, they swear by those gadgets. I suppose that
comment will get me in all kinds of trouble.

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

I am the first to take a run at this project and honestly I don't think either of us thought it would be this tough, if not impossible. Give it a few years and maybe he will bring in a crew for a cut and they will be the guys you are talking about. He's hasn't retired so the money is, and can be, still in the bank. When retirement hits, things may ramp up a bit. There is a different world out there and I have entered it. A world where this amount of money is not that important. Sort of a drop in the bucket. Wouldn't even buy one of the 4 sports cars he drives.

Welcome to the other side of the tracks, way on the other good side of the tracks I guess.

Daryl

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

4 sports cars worth over half a million each?
Smart enough to make that kind of money
but can't remember where he buried 3/4 of
a ton of silver, hmmmmmmmmm.

You can see why some would be skeptical right?

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

Yeah, that happens when you build things on the property, change the driveways around, move the dock, add a dock, and get old.

My thoughts. He is spot on as to where he buried it. Salt water/fresh water/sand mix and tidal motion though has moved the containers below an easy detection depth and you add in the heavy salt water load in the sand and you're screwed. My 2-box won't even balance anywhere near the place. Just put them in the wrong place and too much time has passed. Sounds like my luck with choosing a spot.

Would that much weight just keep sinking, I mean gold
is found on the ocean floor from hundreds of years ago?

Are you finding anymore goodies over there, I don't get
to check all the posts here but seems like you were on
the banner not so long ago with gold???
