Know its there but I know my machine cant "see" it- help!!

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

My first question is, are you sure it's not your friends memory. Have had a couple experiences trying to locate jewlery for people and had the item end up a long way away from where they were positive they lost it. I'm positive there are a large number of folks here that have had the same experience especially the beach hunters.

Another suggestion, do you have any detector shops reasonably close? You can check to see if they have a larger coil you can rent. Or there's always EBay or Craigs list. If you buy it, you can always put it up for sale if you don't have any up coming projects and probably make you original investment back.

No it's there. I'm 100% sure.

I have used a 15" double D coil on my E-Trac. Can't get much bigger. I also have the 1400DD for my DFX. Same thing. I am sure it is the soil conditions that are causing the trouble. I hate salt water mixing with yard soil!!! That's why I buried my own can of coins at 15". Can't find it either. If it wasn't marked, I might not even be able to retrieve my own coins!!! If the 2 box doesn't do it. BACKHOE!!!

Have you thought of trying a PI beach machine? Been hearing good things from the water hunters.

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

I've got the Garrrett Infinium but it is back home. If the 2-box is problematic, I'll have it sent. You are correct. It is a beach machine and doesn't care about the minerals. I need the 2-box (I think it is PI) anyway to search for artillery shells so it is something I want to learn to use but if it doesn't work well. I can get the smaller PI in about 5 days.

Thanks for the info. I need all the help on this one I can get.

A discovery 2 box will work, it won't pick up anything smaller so it will basically discriminate all the pull tabs and small junk by not picking them up. At that depth and the size you described I would bet you it would be found! Speaking from experience and I researched the hell out of 2 box detectors before I bought mine.

What are the odds that over the years these cans sunk? Wet sand and all.

If the cans rotted away that would leave a bunch of individual coins -- to a degree.

The halo should make the coins one target (?).

Sounds like a problematic quest, lots of variables. Sounds like fun to me!

Don't mean to sound pesimistic!

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

I agree with you. In my mind, the "coming and going" of tidal water making the sand "wetter and then drier" would make a can of that weight sink over the 20 or so years. If they were in Aluminum military type "cans" with the clamp enclosures, they could be 10 feet down.

Let's see what the 2-box has to say.

Interesting, definitely. Frustrating? You have no idea.

Nope. I'm gonna find it, die trying, or run out of money.

Reputation man. Reputation. I said I could find it. Now I'm in deep #*&%@.

Very interesting!
Good luck and what fun!

Re: Know it's there but I know my machine can't "see" it- help!!

Got the 2-box Fisher Gemini 3 and took it out. VERY INTERESTING!!

It does not like salt water or minerals AT ALL. I get to within 20 feet of the shore line and it just screams bloody murder. So I'm dead there. Away from the shore it works great. Finding all kinds of big, deep stuff - a 4-headed lug wrench that should clean up nice :D, an old bar-b-que grill grate - rest of it not there so that's a bust, a bench grinder - hey it may still work :tongue3:, and then some junk. Once all that is out, maybe I can hear something else. Like pipes. >:(

Should get the PI next week. So I'll get going with that.

Had a discussion with the owner about dreams and bad memory, etc. He went back in his records and found the receipts for the silver. So he bought it and buried it. Now all I've got to do is find it. :dontknow:

I'll keep you posted.

I have a 1 pound can of pennies buried at 14" that I have been using as a "standard" to check all my machines and coils. It was all I could think of.

I want to comment on Silver Searcher's approach, although humours.

If the terrain would allow for it and the property owner would OK it.....a small dozer could be used to skim off 10 inches then skim 2 more at a time until you got down to 2 feet while someone watches the edge of the blade very carefully. (you can even rent small walk behind endloaders)Then, after its found, recontour the area throw some grass seed on it and go to the bank. The cost would only be 300 to 500 or so bucks and you could just take that out of the find total for expenses, then split the net amount.
