My brother and I had acquired this knife in a storage auction. Looks as if the person had been around the world a bit. Or they're family! Anyway we found this ugly ackward shaped knife. However looks handmade. We were selling it at a our shop when a WW2 vet informed us to not sell this knife as it was specifically designed for man killing. The knife is no longer for sale and has since cut 2 people by accident 1 person was my brother who basically formed a blood bond with this blade.. Please someone give me sone insight as to what we really posess.

So I have a skinning knife! Green river, that is kinda ironic it's called green river! I called it a man killer.. Lol.. Do you think this was handmade by an individual and not a factory? If so, what yr do you think. Also do you think it holds a higher value than the link u posted. Thnx !!

It's probabvly worth $5-$10.00 as it is handmade with an inferior blade (440 steel) and handle material (soft wood). It was probably somebody's first knife project - Sorry

Kuger, thank you for the quick ID of the blade type and thnx everyone else for help on the rest of the ID. Wood type.. However I do not believe it is a low grade alloy as the blade can basically be used as a pry tool. Also I guess I'll never pinpoint the age of it. All in all I consider the case solved as far as blade type goes. But circa and origin are still unknown. Always learn when I post on here. Thnx guys. Anymore info would be awesome.

Contrary to terry's post, Looking at your third image it looks like high carbon steel, as evidenced by the pitting?
440 stainless to my knowledge does not do that. So it should take and hold a fine edge.HH

That is a nice looking skinner! It's "killer". I'm thinkin the handle might be maple? Here are a couple of hand made boning knives that are very old.

Coinhound, its true buddy, its not worth much. But it is a helluva skinner. It has a hard wood homemade handle that was made for someones hand fit and the blade is carbon steel the kind I like to use. It also doesnt apprear to be real old. But then again all we can see is photos.
