No, its not a real spade guinea. Almost had a heart attack when I saw the crown and crest though! Found this little guy along a shoreline near an old wharf. Apparently gaming tokens like these were made to use as game chips in card games in the 18th and early 19th century which matches the age of the site. Also found two musket balls. Perhaps bored rev war or war of 1812 soldiers playing craps left this behind in the sand/mud. This was my last hunt of 2015 so I was pretty happy to end on a good note. Happy hunting in 2016!

It's brass BTW, a little larger than a modern US penny. Here's what they look like in better shape...

Very cool find Gheenoe! I bet you did get a shock out of that crown and crest.

Best of luck in 2016.

I think I would have had a heart attack. .
Cool find, and Merry Christmas

Not sure why this is not getting more attention as these are rarely dug in the US, and is obviously a very cool looking find. WTG!!!

DANG THERE GHEENO MERRY CHRISTMAS AND WHAT A REALLY NICE FIND ....

Your research is spot on, its a period gaming token. They are fairly common, but I've only dug a few over here, you don't hear of many on your side getting them.

That's pretty wild! Sure got the juices pumping I bet. Never heard of the token but sure would have thought Gold if I were to see it in the dirt.
