Key Handle?

Just dug this up in some pasture land, Looks like a handle off something - seen something similar at the end of keys! Copper Alloy (I think) pretty heavy - something has deffinately broken off it at the point where it becomes about 8mm round.
Flat oval shaped - 3 holes decoration:











Reconsruction of broken hole:


Any ideas? Seen this design before?

Are Strap ends 'Hollow'? - This is quite solid.

No, strap ends aren't hollow! Are them holes countersunk

I think he's probably having a rest at work

Looks like they are slightly - Not thinking for screw heads though as neither side would sit flat against anything.
