Sigh: what's so sacred about human remans? There are countless billions of them and there will be even more over the next few years. I doubt that there are many areas in this world, old or new, that don't have their share.
This belief descends from earlier customs to instill in the newer generation a form of Social Security. "Honor your parents, especially when they are old". This was carefully integrated into social and religious beliefs to take care of the elderly. This evolved into ancestor worship, which in turn led to the present attitudes. Plus a little bit of self pity and possibly a touch of guilt in many cases?
If one logically accesses the situation, there is no reason for such a fixation on a few discarded bones.. Now is the time to show respect and love , not after they have passed away.
As Beth said, she is clipping her nails, that is also a part of the human body and remains long after the flesh decomposes. The same goes for extracted teeth and amputated limbs. Why aren't they regarded as highly since they are just as much a part of the human as later scattered bones are. Or does the formality of a grave evolve a special moral aura?
