OK .... Im gonna go with "6th sense" on this one ! :o

If you just picked a spot and started swingin the coil since by the photo it looks like just another dime-a-dozen field apart from the road which has that colonial aire look to it.

Never ceases to amaze me how the colonial finds can be in a developed backyard or the middle of nowhere !

No doubt some type of early activity but for whatever reason ceased then no further development on that piece of land.
Just an ordinary never look twice plot of land !

I'd hunt the field to death ;) and keep your eyes peeled for leftovers...brick,clamshells,broken pottery, square nails...has to be a source for the coin finds...maybe a long forgotten tavern or camp site.

Congrats Danny...thats a reale SWEET find !!

That is a great looking pistareen, man! You must live in Virginia, because they are in abundance in that state.

And you'll also wanna look for clay pipe pieces and stems--these are Quite common in sites that old. I got a piece of a clay trade pipe yesterday in a Colonial site. I'll post it, along with my other finds soon... The stems on them were very long in most cases, and broke easily. So if you see a cream-colored piece that is cylindrical and narrow and has a hole going through it, that's what you've found. Also look for the pieces of the bowls too.

Nice work on this Great coin--Oh, and you'll wanna hit this spot again after it is plowed--make sure they plow it rather than just using the disc.

Another oustanding example of beginners luck, but definetly a inspiration to us all, You have stumbled on to a hot spot. Very cool, what state are you in (other than the state of shock i mean)
