Keep your finds safe! Are you?

I can't afford something like that. So here is my thing...

I hide my silver under my wastebasket in my room. My wastebasket has clothes in piles around it and it is filled with unpleasant things.People call my room messy. I call it organized chaos. I still can find everything in my room. And there is no way anyone is going to look under all those clothes and garbage to find silver. The cool thing is my bedroom window is right next to it, so (god forbid!!) my house should catch fire. I can spear my hand under the wastebasket, grab my silver and throw it out of the window. My silver bag also has copies of important documents for me and my mom.

I have been working with using PVC pipe and making them into mobiles or candle holders in my room. And in the tubes I would put a bit of my silver in each one. Haven't done it yet. but I am just thinking about trying something like that out. But boy, someone would have to be seriously crazy to try and move a safe weighting over a ton. Wow..

Thanks for the laugh! I am still chuckling. I am just glad you were joking. :occasion14:

Leavin' your silver in a SDB? Relying on a check from the insurance? That's relying on the government to protect your silver. If TSHTF the banks will close, you won't get a check and you will be out of that silver. I prefer to rely on myself. Well I take that back, I'll rely on the bank. To bring me more silver via coin delivery. LOL.

My stash is in my gun safe that is bolted to the floor. I have my penny hoard stacked all around it. There is no way anyone can steal my safe without spilling pennies all over the floor which would make for very slippery footing. I am also well armed and my premises are patroled by two trained attack cats.

SDB, if SHTF, you don't think you care spare a moment from your day to drive down to the bank and get your silver. It's not going to be a snap of your fingers type of thing where your sitting at work and all is fine and 15 minutes later all of the financial institutions are locking their doors on the customers. I agree with spreading it out a bit, I have some here and some there, and then a little here and a little there. Even my wife does not know where all the stash's are, if I die I guess she would be screwed out of some but not all my PM

I am not a fan of SBDs either, but they do have their place. I dont keep all my eggs in one basket, nor should any of you. The best security is OPSEC!

What does OPSEC have to do with this? We're talking silver, not countries exporting barrels if oil...

I have my collection split up in a few places. Part is in a bank SDB that is insured by my renters insurance, part is in a family member's home in another state (in a safe), and my recent finds are locked up in my bolted safe in my place. I have hidden motion cams set up all around my place that uploads to the web in realtime, and has a one-push web-based button to alert authorities of suspicious activity. Overkill, maybe?

What company is this available through? Can you view cameras viq smartphone?

scatter them around the house so they just look like loose change! be careful don't spend 'em!

Better idea, keep an easy stack of 90%ers near the door and lace them with acid. They'll grab those first, and have some difficulty finding the rest. Just don't give 'em to the girl scouts when they come by selling cookies!

All pretty bad ideas. Honestly if you have a safe, you are asking to die if it is not well hidden. Here's something to think about and has happened quite a few times. Perp. breaks in, family is home; takes hostage-wife, kids, or you. Threatens to kill one of them if the safe isn't opened. It won't matter how big your safe is, if you or your family are DEAD. Be smart people. Bragging about a big safe is foolish. Having it in a easy to find place is a bad idea. Yes, your closet, MBR, Basement-all bad ideas. If a perp (or perps) know there are valuables and you refuse to give them up when confronted, you are a dead man if that safe is not opened. Rule 1-never discuss what you have or how much. Rule 2-if you have kids-make sure they NEVER tell their "friends" that you collect anything. Explain why! You are inviting temptation. The guy talking about hiding it under nasty, dirty clothes is probably much safer than the guy with the safe. Read up on some of the stories of these home intrusions and how the entire family was killed. Be very careful people. These are desparate times and there are a lot of undesirables out there.

I like your term "undesirables" :)
