Keep or sell finds

Since I've started to sell my stuff, I've been contacted by a few friends who want me to sell their collection when the time comes. Because of this, I've been using Activa. They hold my pictures and auction descriptions and when I get another 1968 Great Britain Team pin, I can just click a button and away we go. My deal with other collectors is that when they go, I sell their stuff, and the proceeds are split 50/50 between their Charitable Foundation and my personal retirement fund.

I like thise ideas. Mount certain things, give some away and sell the rest. I dont want to keep to much as it can add up then your to the point of it being overwhelming to go through all of it.
Sounds like ebay is where people have the best luck selling things. Do you sell it with your own account or go to one of thise ebay storoes?

I have my acount. I take the pictures and do the write up. I trade time for money. When I sell to a stopre I get wholesale. When I sell on eBay I get close to retail. It is one more thing to learn how to do. Make your first few sales with your less expensive items. Look at similar auctions as yours and see what they do right. The best pictures and best write up wins the deal.

Well Frankn Those items you put up are nice ..... and i like them... BUT those and coins to me are just clutter to me sitting around..... For i am not a collector or horded.. is there a difference between a collector and horder ..NO...

I find things. I look at them. I enjoy them for awhile... then I give them away. I have sold very little over the last 40 years or so. I've traded a few but end up giving them away anyway. TTC

Keppy, I think the collector is a little more selective.

Thanks for the favorables guys. Frank

..Frankn...... That is true for most...... But even the good things are just clutter and dust catchers to me.......

How do you know the shippng? Do you take the tem to the post office, fed ex or ups place before listing it. The problem i know i will have witht he old ham radio equipment is the weight. Sme of the old tube radios are over 60 poinds.

Can't help you there... I'm Canadian, plus I know the cost of everything I sell just by experience. Probably best to throw one on a box and swing by the post office, and knowing what it will cost will probably give you a good guideline for the rest. You probably want to make sure you list the shipping just for the U.S..

usually when i sell something its for new metal detecting equipment.gold ring=new sunray pro gold headphones silver coins =new detectors digging tools etc all of my detecting equipment has been paid for with my finds over the years.i can honestly say i would have never spent that kind of money on a set of headphones out of pocket but realize now that i have them they are well worth it.

Try Craiglist...free to list and you can do local pick up. You can list on E-Bay for local pick up but your fees will be the same. Just listed a car for my In-Laws on craigslist and they have a buyer.

This is something most would toss away. It is some type of lid found in a burned out building. I call it moon struck.
Spike found on an old section of Ma & Pa RR bed.
I call this Angel of the sea. I found it on the beach. I took it to a welding shop and a jeweler and neither could identify the metal. It was black on the surface, shined up nice, non magnetic, looked like AL but is harder.

I was looking for the Dents Run gold bars when I found it in the old RR bed. Got quite a stir until the jeweler ID'ed it as bronze. I think it was part of a clutch plate based on the circular grooves.

To each there own but I personally think that is cool as hell thanks for sharing

If I find something that's really unique I tend to hold on to it for awhile. If it's real purty it might find a place on my collectables shelf. After I get tired of looking at it it usually goes to someone with a similar interest. If not, e-Bay time.

I have never sold a single thing that I have found with my metal detector. The Vermont soil has been pretty good to me too. A few offers have come in for a few of the items that I have dug but I really dont need the money and I guess that I am a hoarder. Someday I will sell every piece. Maybe when I retire.........

I too am not a collector. I keep items just long enough to research them, learning all I can. When a decent number are stored up, and the price is right, I liquidate. I have a coin dealer that I trust who not only pays good scrap price, but pays me the numistic value of the coins that are better tha just scrap.

I to keep everthing I find.....for at least the seven day listing :laughing7:

I to keep most every thing I dig ESP. Coins ,CW relics jewlery ,heck I even save pull tabs [for charity] all metals are sold for scrap [if thats what they are] .I an certain one day I will be on the show Hoarders,LOL P.S. there is a very fine -fine line between collecting and hoarding. also I need a warehouse the size of the one shown at the end of the Raiders of the Lost Ark..
