There is fine gold washing in from streams in the western part of the state (from Colorado mountain streams). It's hard to pan because most of it is 100 Mesh or less, but not impossible.

If you can, consider going to one of the GPAA meeting (it is 100% free to attend GPAA meetings, you don't have to join to learn from them) :

Wichita GPAA

I have met some of this clubs members when they did an outing to Colorado in 2012 - great people to learn from (places to go, equipment and sharing skills)

I have heard of some very small amounts of fine glacial gold found in the northeastern corner of the state. I have'nt done any panning in Kansas. Just in the area north of Kansas city,Mo. is where I have been doing my panning.

Hello stonecutter1 have you ever tried highbanking up there, are there spots on the river that a person can safely tent camp while prospecting. I'm a little south of you we might have to get togather and try some prospecting this spring. thanks Mike

Hi Mike, Sorry I didn't get back to you. I haven't been on T-Net lately. I have done some panning on the Missouri side north of Smithville. We found a little fine gold. I havent prospected on the Kansas side yet. I'm in the Kansas City area, where are you from?
