I found a Kansas Pacific Railroad (K.P.R.) baggage tag that is brass and flips open to allow something to be placed inside with a round window. The strap then feeds through the top and holds it closed. It is from the late 1800s I think. The back of the tag states Graves Patent. Can anyone tell me what a Graves Patent is?

A lot of images disappearing today.

I see a similar request was asked here on TNet about 12 years ago.
Was that you? If so, did you gain any information at that time?
Don...
Lots of water under the bridge. I must not have rceived an answer if I did but I don't remember posting it before and it would definately have been pictureless!

Third try at a semi good picture
Do you have a macro lens (flower icon)macro.webp on your camera? I dont know how many times Ive asked this here at TN. ::)

Another thing you need better lighting. Put it directly under a light source. Outside daylight is best but not necessary. Try to eliminate shadows. Turn off the flash if you cant eliminate the reflection. You dont need it.

Small items I take the picture looking through a magnifying glass seems to help me. Good luck getting an ID.

The magnifying glass is good trick for dates on coins or hallmarks but not needed here unless he has some tiny writing. He just needs to learn some basic picture fundamentals. Dont take a picture into the sun and dont spit in the wind. :D

Oh, you youngins.

Wow Mack. I didnt realize that. When I joined in 2004 TN seemed so small. Server kept breaking down, no advertisers yet, no cob forum and Marc was one of the regular guys. :D It seems TN just took off around 2005-06. You cant even see any pics from those old posts because they couldnt be saved, no disc space.

I see you joined a couple months before me in 04. TN must have been practically unknown 12 years ago. :D

Who is the oldest member?

Remember that guy who pretended to be a girl and used some cute blonde as his avatar pic lol?

I believe I saw a 79-yr. old on the "How Old is Everyone" thread; though older ones could certainly be here.
Marc and/or Jeff may have that data on hand.
Don.......

I mean oldest in like been here the longest. I guess Spritch has been here a long time and that deserves a big hand. :hello2:

"I found a Kansas Pacific Railroad Baggage Tag. On the back it says Graves Patent 1878. Does anyone know what a graves patent is?" (Quote Spritch from old 1998 post).

Spritch, if you cant post a pic, you need to tell us exactly what the writing says so we can do a patent search. It should have a month along with the date.

Another try- it is in a glass case. That is part of the problem.
