Hello all!

So, I found this hot spot park recently. It is in the center of a town that was settled in 1640, and incorporated in 1749 (GOD.. I love living in New England). On the front of the park is an old Meetinghouse which dates to the mid 1700's.

So far, I have pulled nearly 300 coins from this location. Alone, I have pulled some 150 quarters ( $40.00 and change)! It has produced a ton more dimes and pennies.

Here is a picture of the park.

Anyhow, this weekend I was hunting with the Father In Law. I got a beep of a coin in an area I had already gone over. I dug out the plug, and at about 3" down, I popped this disc out. At first, I was hoping it was a Half Dollar. Seemed the right size. Upon further examination, I couldn't see ANY details on the coin what so ever, so I figured it was an electrical socket slug or something.

Well, I got home, and threw it in some Hydrogen Peroxide trying to see if I could get anything off of it. After a day of soaking and gentle scrubbing with some Q-Tips, Suddenly, last night, I saw a bust!

I nearly had a heart attack. Did I find something old?!?!

I still don't know what exactly it is that I have. I have posted in the "What's It" section hoping to find out.

Diameter of the coin is 28.9mm. Weight is unknown (don't have an accurate enough scale to weigh it).

What do you think?

Here is a picture of the coin as scanned.

Here is the picture with some lines that I drew on it to enhance what I see.

Here is the back of the coin. Sadly, it's too far corroded to really get anything off of it.

I would say you have a Draped Bust Large cent. Circa 1796-1807.

Good find. Too bad about the condition.

Amen GD.....I think Bob is right, probably not you'll be able to do with it but just remember the dig.....Awesome find!!!!!

I think you have either a Draped Bust or a Liberty Cap.
Both were made in 1796 and both are 29mm in diameter
You would need to bring out more details of the woman's head to tell the difference
Either way, great find!
