as cool as this show is, you will soon find that most people on this forum are not as excited as you are. These shows (especially American Diggers on Spike) tend to give honest detectorists a bad name given the fact that these guys often excavate in unethical ways. On top of that, they encourage people to go out and buy detectors who don't know what their doing. Often times, rules are ignored, and responsible detectorists often are subject to new anti-detecting laws that they themselves didn't cause. Many new bills have been passed banning detecting in parks or other areas, and they often coincide with the airing of new treasure hunting shows.

The previews don't look as bad as American Diggers, but I suppose we will see....

He's not alone. :dontknow:

If it's being done as a TV show, it's ALL about the money. Otherwise, you'd never see it.

I have an idea, why don't we give EVERY person in the world a detector and that way we wont have to worry about saving anything but what's in our own backyards.

;)

I personally think the shows are really cool to watch. I have never been affected by anti-detecting legislation, but I know a lot of others have.

BTW, digging440, If I may ask, where in upstate NY do you live?

20 miles east of binghamton

There are some cool vids here on Tnet to look at, and more are posting vids. Set back and look them over you will like them. HH

yes, ive watched alot of them, also my daughter found alot of m.d. vidios on you tube---some are pretty neat.---

Cool! I'm in Hamilton this spring let me know if u wanna do any hunting

Aquachigger on youtube is a best bet for a true detectorist and video shooter. Check him out!

in 1977-78-79, i worked for a fella installing aluminum siding on houses in hamilton-sher-earlville-orinskiny falls etc., some great old houses in the area, i remember removing old lanolium off a floor in an old farmhouse in orin falls and under it was about 50 old newspapers, all 1918-1920, i still have them somewhere. they were in super condition.

Sounds like a show on NatGeo a couple of months ago, looked like the start of a new series at the time. While the places they had access to (because of the show) were very impressive and had huge potential, the detectorists themselves didn't impress me in the slightest. They threw around a lot of some kind of silly "detectorist lingo" while not even properly identifying half the relics and artifacts they actually found.

Thanks for the heads-up about it, but from what I've seen of the show I'll have to pass.

will do----nuggetnoggen too

Nugget Noggin, AquaChigger, and American Coin Hunting... just searching Metal Detecting videos or old coins found metal detecting yields good vids..

As for the TV show politics, my views (not that they matter) is that it is reality tv, just like pawn stars, and everyone falls for it.. from my time "picking" in Pawn shops, people have came in and mentioned pawn stars or asked outrageous prices.. the same goes for metal detecting.. the shows make it sound like we get Carson City Silver dollars everytime we turn on the machine, but only the people who appreciate history can determine the difference between reality tv, and real life.

Here! Here! Sir! Here! Here! :icon_thumright:

But how come you didn't mention "Sonofadigger" vids? He'll show the proper way to rub coins in the field. ;)

( DUCK!!! INCOMING!!! :) )

HH!

This show is alot better than the American Diggers BS, I remember last seasont they were at a prison, and only found some old bullet casings and a Dime, which is ALOT more beliveabel than Rick Savage busting thru a concrete wall to find a Air filter full of coins and a Pilgram Cross....Man i hated that show..lol

I personally got burned out of the YouTube videos, I watch them every once in while, but sometime the vids are 15-20 mins long, and people are pumping 20 out a day.

I do still watch some, but just dont have time to sit down and watch the whole thing

Haha...I actually had to watch Honey Boo Boo, just to see what the hype was...its sad, that the "Learning" Channel puts that out there...As for American Diggers....you have to watch at least one episode...it wont take long before you see what BS it is

I am going to search for Digger here in our area and no wonder people have an idea that Southerners are a bunch of dumb rednecks with Honey Boo Boo representing! I will plead the fifth though to admitting I am hooked on Dance Moms, that's quality TV right there, lol!
