Close enough to the beach
Detector(s) used
**Tesoro Tiger Shark** Tesoro Silver Umax** Minelab Sov Gt w/WOT coil** Whites 6000Di Pro SL**
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I ran out to my local dealer to buy a Tesoro Silver Umax this morning. While I was there I also ordered a 3x18 clean sweep coil. On the way back, I met up with a woman who was looking for a super cheap detector on Craig's list. I had a discovery 1100 that I had purchased over a year ago, but neither my wife nor my daughter had any interest in it. So I have a new detector and so does she ! I came back home, grabbed a bite to eat, did a little air testing with the detector, now it's time to hunt!

I ran down to the festival grounds that I've hunted about a dozen times. I hunted for close to 4 hours I ended with a little clad, a bunch of pull tabs and a bullet.

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

Congrad's on your new machine. Those are some nice looking pulltabs.
Next time out it will be gold & silver.

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

Gotta love those Tesoro's, very fast cherry pickin machines.

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

Congrats on your new Silver Umax. I've been using one for about a year now, and LOVE it. They are excellent machines, and very easy to use. Looking forward to seeing more of your finds soon.

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

I have this machine as a backup, good pinpointer & good in trashy areas.

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

Thanks for the replies. I can't wait to get back out there. The gold is waiting for me, I just know it.

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

Did you go hunting in an aircraft manufacturing plant next to a bar??? How much are the pop rivits going for??? J/K HH

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

LOL The rivets were found where the rides were set up. My only question is when did those rivets break off?

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

Congrats, willie! You're gonna have a lot of fun with that detector. Now go find some old houses and hit the easements in front of them!

Re: Just bought a new silver umax

I'm going, I'm going LOL

1 question: When I turn it on it starts chattering like it's receiving morse code. Is this normal? My first time out with it, it took a few minutes of swinging before the chattering subsided. When I would stop to dig a target, it would start back up. All metal, discriminate, low sensitivity, max sensitivity it didn't matter

I've had that happen to me once or twice too. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to quit. Both times I was near some power lines, so I figured that was what was causing it. It drove me nuts. It happened to me once on vacation in Michigan, and once here in NC.
Any power lines where you were, or electric fence?

No, in my living room, in my front yard or in the middle of the festival grounds same thing...chatter.

Re: Just bought a new silver umax...... help (check my last post)

check your coil cord as to be screwed in right, or tight

Do you have an alkeline battery in there?
Were you close to a pinpointer when this was chattering?
I run mine pretty much all the time on:
Discrim set at "tab" (unless I'm looking for gold too)
Sens set at 10
And NOT in All Metal mode.

That doesn't sound right to me I agree disconnect the coil wire with the machine on and see if the chatter is still there if not try to reconnect the coil wire and if the chatter comes back you probably have a problem with the coil

Chatter stops when coil is disconnected and goes straight to steady tone. I think the wire going into the coil might be the problem. I can control the signal by moving the wire, that can't be good.

Checked: it's tight.

I e-mailed Tesoro's service department, so we'll see.
