Just another NEAT 1800's Mystery Item

I dig items practically every week that are whatizit's,some i post and most I put in a container and forget about 'em but I dug this today at an 1800's cellarhole along with a no date "fatty" IH and just thought it was cool enough to post.
It has a very smooth surface like some sort of alloy. The VDI on it bounces around between 18 and 50.The two holes line up perfectly like there may have been a pin through it for some purpose?? ;D ;D :icon_scratch: Thanks for havin a look and for any suggestions on it's identity.
Jerry

Re: Just another NEAT 1800's Mystery Item

Perhaps a foot operated trip lever for a horsedrawn sulky type hay rake. Also called dump rake.

Might be a brake pedal for a 1850 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The groove on the bottom rubbed on the tire.

I wonder if that could be a card file or index card holder such as would have been seen in the small wooden boxes at old general stores, etc. The index card would have had a hole punched in it , and then placed on a bar that would have been inserted through the bottom two holes. The slot on the bottom would serve to align the holders on a track in the bottom of the box. The whole index could be lifted out by the thumb tab at the top.

I like the "leg" idea but it's too small for a stove leg...

Folks!

I do not know what it is, but I know it is way too small for most of the suggestions. Look at the IH in th picture with it.

Hope someone ID's it for you.

The very archetecture of this item suggests that

it is made to be positioned on a track or aligning bar, and that a rod or is meant to go through the holes. The top looks like a thumb tab to me.
It's hard to know what its intended purpose was, but I still lean towards an index file of some nature.

Re: Just another NEAT 1800's Mystery Item

Very imaginative guess's on this one.Thanks. I thought i should add another picture for scale since the Indian Head in the picture doesn't seem to do the job. I like the photoshop job Creskol,it's got me thinking. Also,Lost causes, you might be on to something with the drawer pull idea. The shallow channel on the bottom reminds me of something gun related like how a sight attaches to a gun..Any gun experts out there?

My gosh! I thought it was so much bigger! I couldn't tell what that coin was on my monitor for size reference. I'll have to agree, some kind of latch for a shash or window. Monty
