Johnny Cash - Like the 309

I saw Johnny in Des Moines in '64. He was pretty drunk and performed sitting down in a straight-backed chair. Nonetheless, it was a great performance - there was something about him that was mesmerizing. I saw many great musicians during the Golden Age, ca mid '60s to mid '70s - mostly British blues, San Francisco groups, early Southern rock, etc. - but Cash always got my attention, right up to the end. So did Willie (Phases and Stages, Red-Headed Stranger), Waylon, Kris, John Prine and others. I miss the musicians' creativity and passion from those days. I know there are many exceptions, but for the most part, for me, the popular music scene in recent decades has devolved into recycled material performed by posers. Technically competent, but no real grab.

You my friend are 100% correct! Actually most are mass, studio produced by others and not competent at all.

Johnny Cash - "Ain't No Grave"

Wow you went to college with Bradley Nowell from Sublime. His death was so tragic, senseless and such a loss... I never could stand Gwen either and that's why I never played any of her videos "no doubt'.

Sublime - "What I Got"

Oh you mean this one "Where Did You Sleep Last Night"...

Yes of course that is the one! Have you ever looked up all of the songs that Lead Belly wrote? that are covered and made famous by more modern artists? Almost all the greats have covered him even Johnny. The man was a genius

We were not best buddies or anything but Yes. He was more of my big brothers friend. More my brothers personality. I was the square that went to school to get ahead :) NEEERF My big brother was a punker. I loved my big brother but at 19 I had to "cohabitate" his Apartment on Ximino in Long Beach Because he did not have the credit to get it on his own. So I was on the paperwork and had to pretend like I lived there. The landlord was across and down the street so I frequented my brothers place. My Brother knew everyone, mostly because his place was a haven for Drinking and partying of all sorts. That is where I got to know Joey Ramone, Jello Biafra, Mike Ness and a whole bunch of other punk attitude persons. My Brother would drive Jello to the airport after gigs. I am sure thats where I got the affinity for Signed things. My brother had a ton of it. And had a wall in the apartment where they would sign in the hallway. When he moved out we had to paint over that wall. Probably worth a fortune today. I should have cut it out and replaced it. Some where in my mass of storage I have my brothers things. I haven't touched them yet but he has every DK album Signed by Jello and one of Joeys leather jackets signed. Just not ready to go there. Enjoy Sunday everyone!
