John David New York thingy??

found this at my favorite 1780s house. I know its not from that time but literally can't find out what this may be. It says john david new york and has a knight with a shield. Inside the shield are three arrows, a fleur de lis, and three spikes or something on the top left. Any ideas?

I found this from a 1922 trade publication referencing John David clothier, hatter & haberdasher 32nd St. & Broadway, New York City, NY.

Silver Searcher is probably right. It's some kind of bottle or flask top. Probably the cork has rotted away.

It is metal, no threads, and about the size of a quarter.
