Hello All.

It's been a rewarding summer, as well as a learning summer. I've slacked off a bit whereas I haven't put up a lot of photo's. This is my 'make up' posting. Here is a collection of some jewelry I have found so far this year.

This first one, I need advice on. It's a brooch/pendant. I found it about 1-2" in the ground. All I have done to it is wash it with some soap and water. The only marking on it that I can see is the word SILVER on the back mounting. What do you think? Is it legit silver, sterling, or just a good piece of costume jewelry? It is a HEAVE piece. That is for sure!

This next piece is a wonderful ring that I found in the same area as the above brooch. It appears to look older to me.. perhaps just my wish. This is also silver.

This next piece is just a junk ring that I found. Still counts to my jewelry count! lol

This is a ring I found some time ago and posted, but thought i'd add to this collection. The jury is still out on this one, as to whether it's 'real' or not.

This is my only real beach find so far this year. It's cubic zirconium on a silver chain, and silver backing heart.

This next piece is a silver pendant that I found. Says "Sterling Silver" on it.

Next is another pendant I fount. It also says "Sterling Silver".

AND finally.... I found this cheapie watch pendant thing. I know it's all fake, but thought it was unique.

Thanks for looking!

That first piece is gorgeous! Love the combined brooch-pendant styling. Early 20th century high quality piece.

The brooch looks like the real deal to me.

I'd say that broach is silver, and a beautiful piece of it. Congrats on all of the finds. That's a lot of successful digging.

there are no Numbers like 925 or950? I can't see that well cause of the glare.. I'm pretty sure to be sterling silver by law it has to be marked with numbers or the word sterling... They make a marker that you can rub the ink over the brooche an it turns different color to detect what metal it is.. that would advise for you to do or take it to a jewler an see if they will test it for you..without scratching it....

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Sadly, there are no other hallmarks on that brooch. This is why i'm wondering if it could be costume jewelry. Not sure. I, as well as others, have studied this thing for a very long time and could not find ANYTHING on it... other than that simple word SILVER on the back.

I was wondering if it was significant that it only said Silver. Could this give it some age? Did they mark them differently back then?

Yes it could still be Silver, the sterling or .925 marks have only been used or recognized for a relatively short time period. And even today it's not uncommon to find foreign jewelery minus these marks as a tax dodge in import taxes as well as home country taxes. Many overseas jewelers have for years made peices that were or are quite extraordinary as a means for people to carry their wealth over borders without having to declare the actual value. There are in escence many scenarios where your broach could be real, best way to know is a Jewelers test. I suspect the piece was made as a tax dodge that was later relabled due to circumstances.

Great digs Silverfreak,
Hope your family member gets well,I have said a prayer for them,
Jim

You have done great in finding the jewlery. Keep it up and waiting to see more finds.
