"JANUARY,1820, while keeping the WASHINGTON HOUSE"

Names? IF person wasn't "present"... their "written book/notes" were STILL utilized, such as Mrs. Margeret Cabell's book; she died in 1858. REBELS like Gen. J. Early, Gen. T.T. Munford, Frank James (as James Earl Warren; JEW)… LOL! Books on earlier WESTERN adventures, like Lewis & Clark, Pike's Peak (BIG ONE!); look up the names like Mark Twain, EAP... HA!

FORGET the Washington House/Hotel "junk", & get with CW/post-CW events (MHO). Lynchburg, Lexington, Va. & Virginia Military Institute benefited from the so-called Beale Treasure... it was ALL part of the Western Virginia portion of the CSA Treasury... even PV thought so. MORE later.
ANOTHER "source"; "google" Ferdinand C. Hutter, Anonymous Author of Ward's Pamphlet. HH! Good Luck!
.

Let us not forget the Ward and his Hutter cousins served in the Confederate Army, and most likely utilized codes and ciphers during their service.

During the "second year of the Confederate War" CSA Major Ferdinand C Hutter was not young nor could "afford leisure to the task imposed" as the "unknown author" was described in the Beale Papers.
Could this be an additional "ruse" to distance the author from those would purchased the dime novel pamphlet expecting to solve the ciphers and grow rich while neglecting their legitimate business to the point of penury?

Define the "2nd year of the CONFEDERATE WAR"; 1861-65...? RM died in 1863; so did Gen. Stonewall Jackson, CSA. That MAY be why Maj. C.F. Hutter (CSA Paymaster) was SUDDENLY "called to Richmond"...

THEN, CF Hutter had his cousin, JB Ward to get ready to "act as AGENT" for the author (Hutter); who was interviewed by John William Sherman (reporter, and "cousin")…

J. W. Sherman "wrote" the BPP (as a reporter), as a JOB PRINT (which meant per "contract"); WHY...? GREAT Question for 1885!

"It was 1862, the second year of the Confederate War"- THE BEALE PAPERS

With most of the "facts" in the Beale Papers, no exact date, just that vague reference.

Since, Robert Morriss died in January, 1863, the first meeting when the author was called away to Richmond would have been late 1862. Which would have been the second year of the Civil War. So most likely the entire story was told and the manuscript and iron box was handed over in late 1862. If you could see the location where Robert Morriss died you would know that not too many would have come to see him. So most likely the author was one of Anzoletta Saunder's sons, one of his six doctors or an invited guest.

Owner of the LYNCHBURG VIRGINIAN and VIRGINIA PRINT SHOP, Charles W Button claimed his sub-editor wrote the Beale Papers and Gorham Walker, Ward's great grandson claimed is was written by his grandfather.
Most likely they both were involved along with Ward's wife Harriet Emmaline Otey, who was born and raised 4 miles from Bufords. It was an Otey, after all , who George Hart had show the "alleged" iron box with a torn numbers covered slip of paper to Pauline Innis that gave this ephemeral pamphlet a rebirth in the 1960's that continues to this day.

...and most likely was young and had leisure time during the War, and have have, as stated in the Beale Papers, some connection to James Beverly Ward who was chosen as "agent" and publisher, and:
"who was well known to Morriss...and would have been one of the beneficiaries in the event of my("unknown author") success" -THE BEALE PAPERS

Did Anzoletta Saunder's sons or Morris's doctors know or have a connection to James Beverly Ward?
"The reasons which influenced him(Morriss) in selecting me for trust...Friendship for myself and family, whom he could benefit if he could...the knowledge that I was young , and in circumstances to afford leisure for the task imposed" -THE BEALE PAPERS

ECS, I was hoping I would have the answers to these questions but I have not gotten up that way to check things out? Anzoletta and Harriett were first cousins. Anzoletta's son Daniel most likely had the leisure time for the effort. There was a doctor living near by that had a son about the same age. Both became an attorney and one of them was a Doctor also. Then there was the Doctor's brother, he had a son that was about the right age. There is a lot to check in this area where Robert Morriss died, who knows may even find a copy of the original with notes in an iron box within the old dwelling.

Good information! Can someone prove it to be accurate?
