Was going through my finds from the last melt down and came across this. It is a 1970D Rooselvelt dime. However, it appears bright and silver in tone; there is no copper in reeds as in post 1964 dimes (sorry I could not get a decent enough pic to show) the rim appears just as a silver dime would look.
I took pictures of a 1968D dime and have weighed each. Pictures were taken with exact same exposure and lighting. There is a difference of .05 grams between the two coins. I have tried to find info on this but only come up with the few 1970 No mint mark proof dimes. I suppose this could be silver plated but how?
I have looked at this over and over and think it is real silver but can't explain it - perhaps someone knows more about it.
Any info and opinions are welcome - thanks and think spring!
