Earlier this week I made the statement that I had only found one civil war bullet so far in my MDing hobby. Well I have hit the same area twice this week for a few hours each time and hit 20 bullets today and 10 the time before. I mentioned in another post that I thought I had found a campsite.....well again I hit all of these (and the others) in a 20 yard by 20 yard area and some within the same hole....AND MY FIRST "J" HOOK!!!!. Super excited. So I want to hear from the experts.....are these drops and do you think this is a camp????
Thanks for looking.

I'm no expert but yes they are drops. Going by what you have found it sounds like a camp or pickets post to me. Nice job and keep hunting it hard. The more you find the more you can learn about the site.[emoji106] [emoji106]

The melted lead is a great sign of a camp.

Really hard to say about drops without closer up photos. Are all the "rings" around the bullets deep and well defined? Do you see a little "ring" around the nose of any bullets, about a half inch from the tip (which would be a ramrod mark)? If deep rings around the base and no ring around the cone, then they are prob dropped, and indeed they look dropped. Congrats either way. 20 bullets in a day is darned good in 2016. Nice J hook too. For me, not near enough evidence to call it a camp, but nothing yet says it WASN'T! In a camp, you should find more melted lead, maybe a button or two, eating utensils, broken glass or crockery, maybe even ration can remains. Sure good enough to go back soon and often!

Second time in 10 minutes you've beaten me to a post relic nut!

Great finds!!! Looks like a camp to me. Start diggin' every beep! Those are some great relics!

All of the bullets look to be fresh...no markings indicating they have been fired. I have NEVER heard of ration cans...but i was finding these spread around and thought they were more 1950s. Do you think these are ration cans? They were as deep as the bullets most of the time.

WOW, you found a wonderful spot! I hope some other great finds come out of the ground like buttons. gun parts or even guns. Must be exciting to find that many bullets in one spot.

As deep as the bullets? Yeah, decent possibility, especially if you are hunting in Warrenton Red clay . . . ?

This is what I found at the beginning of the week in the same spot. Flat button, bullets, camp lead, brass rivets, camp axe/wedge, and something that looks like a utensil or razor
