IWA JIMA WAR MAP WHATS IT WORTH

What can I say, but you are holding significant piece of WWII history in your hands. The maps to me as a military veteran are priceless. As a Retired Air Force Flight Engineer, I have flown many trips to Iwo Jima 1984-88, taking supplies out to the remote Coast Guard station there. The island was intimidating to me, rough and rugged, looking at those steep black sand beaches, always made me think of the brave men charging up those beaches.
Even to this day efforts by the Japanese to return their war dead continues, as the many caves are sealed due to the battles, they are numerous, and explored cautiously due to live ordinance still there.
The Coast Guard station is no longer manned today and the Iwo Jima is an Japanese air base.

My father was in the 5th Marine division on Iwo Jima. He still cries when he tells me about that battle. He is the bravest man I know. He was only seventeen when he was sent to Iwo Jima.

There were several times I flew WWII veterans to the Iwo Jima, from Yokota Air Base in Japan. It was an honor for our C - 130 flight crews to have them on our flight.
Our main missions was to resupply the US Coast Guard once a week.

UPDATE I recrived a email today from Butterfields wanting to know when they could call me to talk about the maps. maybe we will know something shortly. Bildon

I was offered $1000.00 for the maps what do you think? I did not accept the offer today. bildon

Bildon:
Clint Eastwood directed a movie entitled 'Letters from Iwo Jima'; about the lives of the six who raised the flag. You may wish to contact his agent and see if CE has an interest in your map.
Another thought: Contact the Truman Library and see if they might have an interest since the event happened during the first month of HST's administration.
Final thoughts: Give counter proposal to Butterfield's with what you'd accept. Also put the map on eBay with a starting price you'd be willing to accept.
Good luck,
Don...

I put the maps on ebay today but i can not give the item number because i am not a charter member yet so i would be breaking the rules which i do not want to do on this great forum. bildon
