I am not well versed in the history of Poland or its coinage to tell you for sure, but my guess this is somehow related to Poland "POL." and one of their Kings, a number of which had the name of "AUGUSTUS". The "bird" in the lower right of the coat of arms on the reverse of the coin looks very much like a griffin and crown at the top seems to denote a king. But, that's all just a guess.

Thanks, I think you're on to something there. The reverse side really closely resembles a 1700's Spanish silver coin I saw on the net, but lacked the bird, which could be the Polish White Eagle of the Piast dynasty. The other charactors look similar to the lion, but differ in that the one top right has a rider and the one bottom left looks like a horse? Thru magnification it looks like there's a bird sitting on the king's right shoulder...

Been thru several hundred sites and none of the coins or even depictions of any of the Polish Leaders named Augustus come close. Maybe it's one of the many named "Augustus the Usurper's" that have been out there thru history.

Still looking, love a good mystery......

(got nothing better to do)
