Yes and it could be plated with gold so if is a good idea to check

One thing about gold if you drop it in the dirt and come back 300 years later it will look like you dropped it yesterday.
All the gold I've found I knew it was gold as soon as I unearthed it.
Gold does not tarnish or get dull or get crusted over.
That is one reason gold is so valuable
